WATCH THE TREND Watch the trer>d of things/ dear friend, And be careful how you go, Lest you find yourself entangled By the threads and webs of woe; For there's always evil forces That would pull you in the tide, Where the water's deep and dangerous And the ocean's rough and wide. Watch the trend that grips the masses In the habits that they form, And with grit and grace and patience Go against the tide and storm, Ere you find yourself among them With the ropes around your neck, And you're going far from harbor By your folly and neglect. Watch the trend that's wrecking peo ple In their homes across the earth— Television, fussing, quarreling, Leaving off the things of worth; Never praying, never reading God's eternal Word that holds, Letting sin and evil forces Take possession of their souls. Watch the trend in many churches Toward the worldly and the wrong, Even in their forms of worship With no grace in prayer and song; Then resolve down in your spirit That you'll keep your soul flame By the power of real salvation That the masses cannot claim. THANKSGIVING A weary stretch of ocean crossed, With prospect bleak and bare— The sullen sky of early fall And joyless, chilly air. Yet, grateful for their scanty goods The Pilgrims' thinning ranks Knelt down, with only Faith and Hope, And gave God earnest thanks. If they whose harvests were but woe Could skyward turn their gaze, And offer up their hearts, content To wait for better days, How should the vaults of heaven ring With praises from a land High-heaped with almost ev'ry gift That God holds in His hand!
A LTTLE CHAP FOLLOWS ME A careful man I want to be For a little fellow follows me. I do not dare to go astray For fear he'll go the self-same way. I cannot once escape his eye, Whate'er he sees me do, he'll try, Like me he says he's going to be— The little chap that follows me. He thinks that I am good and fine, Believes in every word of mine. The base in me he must not see, The little chap who follows me. I must remember as I go Through summer's sun and winter's snow I am building for the years to be The little chap who follows me. I THANK THEE, LORD I thank Thee, Lord, for the flowers that grow. You made the sun, the rain and the snow; The beautiful trees, to give shade to all men. I thank Thee, Lord, for all You send. I thank Thee, Lord, for each day of life. You help me gain strength through every strife; And as I live each new day through, I thank Thee, Lord, for sad days are few. I thank Thee, Lord, for comforting me. When I am floating on an empty sea, My world seems to crumble, and threatens to fall; I thank Thee, Lord, for then I hear Your call. I thank Thee, Lord, for leading me. You've opened my heart, and let me see The wonders in Your world so wide; I thank Thee, Lord, for being my Guide. — Joydelle Garrett Wolfram
