Spring 2024 OUR 20-YEAR ANNIVERSARY THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT
This year marks Eversole Law Firm’s 20th year in business. Since 2004, we’ve grown from one attorney (me) and one paralegal (our much-loved Debbie Rodgers, who retired four years ago) doing mostly residential real estate closings to an eight-member firm. It’s been quite a journey from the not-so-smooth sailing through the “Great” Recession of 2007–2009 to diversifying into land litigation, probate administration, and estate planning. If I learned anything from those uncertain years, it was knowing how important it is to not put all my eggs in one basket.
Yet, I enjoy title abstracting, particularly for my land litigation cases. It can be challenging to find the right path to making an unmarketable piece of property marketable. So, I am testing the waters with my own title abstracting company, Comprehensive Title Services, LLC. My plan is to offer thorough title searches and opinions to the public, and not just for my law firm’s real estate transactions and court cases. It could be for someone preparing to bid on a piece of property to be sold at a tax sale so they don’t get blindsided by buying property with title issues, or finding evidence of ancestral lines involving heirs’ property, or title abstracts for other real
As businesses grow, over time we can get complacent in the comfort of our success and not necessarily see the writing on the wall when the economy begins to take another downward turn. Marketing tends to increase as competition increases to withstand the challenging economy. I suddenly find myself stuck in the “old” way of marketing, and at the same time, I’m swamped with emails of new business ventures offering new marketing techniques, from video interviews to participating in blogs. I am a fish out of water in that arena, and to make matters worse, the topic of real estate law is not inherently interesting to most people.
estate closing attorneys or attorneys who may need expert testimony in land litigation cases. All in all, it has been a fantastic 20 years in business, and I look forward to expanding my business repertoire one more time. I’ve met some wonderful people and friends along the way. I thank each and every one of you who have blessed us with your business, dedication, and support over these many wonderful years. -Alysoun Eversole

Self-Care Tips for a Happier and Healthier You
You matter. It’s an easy thing to forget with the overwhelming obligations and responsibilities most people have, but you matter. Everyone, including you, must practice self-care to ensure their happiness and peace of mind. Disconnect From Technology The connectivity provided by technology comes with several benefits, but they have just as many drawbacks. Companies design phones to be addictive. Your brain releases a little dopamine whenever you get a notification, not unlike a slot machine. That’s why we constantly check our phones, even when they don’t ring or vibrate. Meanwhile, studies correlate heavy social media usage with profound feelings of loneliness and depression. Everyone needs to distance themselves from technology every so often. Try leaving your phone at home when you go outside or set a specific no-screen time. Better yet, dive into nature. Practice yoga in the park or hike through the woods and breathe in the fresh air instead of scrolling. Dream More Our bodies demand that we spend about a third of the day sleeping, and it does so for a reason. Almost every
cell needs time to refresh and renew. But many people continue to shrug off sleep, which falls to the bottom of their priorities. Take the time to increase your sleep quality. It helps almost every part of your body, from brain to toe. To do so, implement positive sleep habits. Don’t watch TV before bed, keep your bedroom dark, and put your phone on “do not disturb.” Indulge Yourself It’s all too easy to devote our lives to other people, but taking time for ourselves is essential. Some me-time lets you get some perspective through joy. Once a month, push the responsibilities away and spend the day doing what you love. If you want a spa day, get a massage. If you’d prefer to paint figurines in your basement, that’s all you. We spend most of our time in our heads, preoccupied with our thoughts and focused on our obligations. It’s not good for our mental health. The sheer weight of life is heavy on our shoulders and minds. Ease those worries and anxieties by putting the phone away, getting a good night’s sleep, and spending quality time with ourselves.
Raising Awareness and Reducing Stigma Did you know that 1 in 5 adults suffer from anxiety and depression? Many of us know friends, family, and loved ones who suffer from conditions impacting PRIORITIZING MENTAL HEALTH
the importance of our nation’s struggle with mental health and wellness and to celebrate research into the prevention, treatment, and recovery from mental health conditions. Following its success in raising awareness nationwide, the holiday grew, soon becoming Mental Health Awareness Month. Now, the entire month of May is dedicated to increasing recognition of — while decreasing the stigma around — mental health. How to Help It is important for us to show those who may be suffering from mental health problems that we care. By listening without judging and learning to speak with them about their experiences, we can help them feel supported. Therapy, as well as support groups, can also be a powerful tool to aid in treatment
their mental health. Despite this, it takes an average of 11 years for those affected to get treatment after the onset of symptoms, and it is estimated that fewer than half of all Americans struggling with mental illness are receiving the care they desperately need. Given that May is Mental Health Awareness Month, we thought it appropriate to hopefully help spread the word on this important topic. The History In 1949, thanks in part to lobbying by the National Mental Health Association — now known as Mental Health America — what began as Mental Health Awareness Week was first established. The idea was to raise awareness and emphasize
and recovery from trauma and conditions affecting mental health and wellness. Likewise, building a support network is also important. Speaking to someone about their thoughts, feelings, and emotions can help change or even save their life. If you or someone you know is suffering from a mental health condition, know that help, both in the form of support and treatment, is available. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline to speak to a professional.

CELEBRATING EDUCATION AND SHARING DAY Embracing Knowledge and Spreading Kindness
Few things are more pivotal to success than education, or more critical to growth of character and empathy than sharing with others. Few people have embodied the principles of education and sharing more than Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, whose work to promote the Hasidic Jewish tradition of Chabad-Lubavitch helped preserve an age-old tradition during, and in the aftermath of, the Holocaust. On April 18, 1978, in honor of Rabbi Schneerson, President Jimmy Carter officially inaugurated Education and Sharing Day, on the day of the rabbi’s birth, as a national holiday. In light of the upcoming festivities, we thought it a perfect opportunity to discuss the accomplishments of the late great Rabbi Schneerson, and how we can celebrate his legacy together. Who is Rabbi Schneerson? While some outside of the Jewish faith may not have heard of Rabbi Schneerson, he is a figure worth adulation, praise, and recognition.
He was born April 18, 1902, in Southern Ukraine. Rabbi Schneerson’s father was a renowned scholar, and his mother an established aristocrat. Rabbi Schneerson studied at the University of Berlin, before the rise of the Nazi party forced him and his wife to flee for Paris in 1933. In France, he continued his studies at the famous Sorbonne, before the Nazis occupied the city, and the couple had to make their escape once again, this time to New York. In June of 1941, Rabbi Schneerson was named the head of Chabad-Lubavitch’s educational arm and publishing house, and in 1950, was chosen to lead the movement. What is the Chabad-Lubavitch Movement? The movement facilitates education, outreach, and humanitarian aid through what are known as Chabad Houses. As a
gift to the Jewish people whom they serve, there are no membership fees required to attend any of their classes, lectures, or special events. Instead, altruism and a commitment to spreading knowledge are the primary goals of the Chabad-Lubavitch Movement. Rabbi Schneerson grew the small movement, which had been driven nearly to the point of extinction by the Holocaust, to over 200,000 members worldwide. And, owing to Rabbi Schneerson’s success, there are now over 3,500 Chabad Houses worldwide. How do I celebrate? By learning more about the life and legacy of Rabbi Schneerson, you have already begun properly celebrating this treasured day. Now, join us in honoring him by embodying the principles he lived by, and help share and spread knowledge for the betterment of those around us as best we can.

3 PRANKS TO KEEP APRIL FOOLS’ DAY WHIMSICAL, NOT WEARY
April Fools’ Day can be a tricky tradition for many families, as kids sometimes get a bit too rowdy or perhaps feel like pranks are more annoying than fun. But you can keep the laughs light-hearted and suitable for all ages with a couple of good pranks tailored to help kids enjoy the whimsy of this holiday without potential blowouts. Color-Changing Milk This creative prank is a surefire way to captivate young minds without any mess. You can add a few drops of food-grade coloring dye to a milk carton and serve it to an unsuspecting audience. The milk will appear to change colors as you pour it into their glass. It looks magical, and you can add edible glitter for an extra dose of the fairy feeling.
Balloon Avalanche This one requires a bit more set-up, but it’s worth it for those who wish to keep the fun and magic of April Fools’ Day alive. Blow up 50–100 balloons and place them in your kids’ room while they sleep. They’ll awaken to a huge surprise. This prank is pretty harmless, and your kids will be sure to remember having to wade through balloons to brush their teeth. Latherless Soap Speaking of a bathroom routine, you can also use soap as a prank. Coating a bar of soap with clear nail polish and letting it dry means it won’t create a lather when your kids go to wash their hands. This prank encourages your kids to find
humor in the unexpected and will at least remind them to appreciate working soap the next time they wash their hands. These are just three pranks for a whimsical April Fool’s Day. Innocent mischief is a great way to unite families and share laughter. The key to a successful celebration lies in harmless, heartwarming tricks that invite magic and the shared joy of familial love. Let the surprises unfold in the spirit of April Fools’ Day, and embrace the laughter!
