6 QUICK STEPS TO TAKE AFTER AN ACCIDENT YOUR AFTER-ACCIDENT GUIDE

Step 4: Collect Witness’s Information If any witnesses saw the accident take place and cannot wait around for police to arrive, take down

Immediately after a car accident, worry and panic ensue! I know that no matter how serious an accident is, who was at fault, and where it happened, it can be a scary and confusing time. However, to make sure that everyone is safe, you follow the law, and collect all of the necessary information to correctly file an insurance claim, there are certain steps I recommend that you take. MALLOY LAW’S 6 STEPS TO TAKE AFTER AN AUTO ACCIDENT Keep this newsletter in your glove compartment or center console for easy access if you ever need to reference it — you’ll be glad you did! Step 1: Check for Injuries Immediately following a car accident, check yourself, your passengers, and people in the other vehicles for injuries. If anyone requires immediate medical attention, call 911 or have someone else make the call. Try not to move until the emergency personnel arrive. Keep in mind that not all injuries present themselves right away, especially when stress is present. It’s always best to get checked out just in case! Step 2: Obtain a Police Report and Take Photos If the vehicles involved can be moved safely to the side of the road, do so, then contact the police. A police report is necessary to document the accident and the scene. To assist with the claims process, most insurance companies will ask for a copy of the report. Don’t forget to take photos of the accident scene if it is safe to do so. Step 3: Collect Driver’s Information After all involved parties are out of the road, it’s important to gather the contact and insurance information of the other driver(s) involved in the accident. Information to collect includes:

their name and phone number and an account of what they say took place. Then, provide this information to the police when they arrive on scene. Step 5: Collaborate With the Police

When the police arrive, provide them with your information, driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle registration and be ready to give them an account of what took place when they ask you for it. If necessary, your car may need to be towed. Remember to stay calm! Step 6: Notify Your Insurance and Start a Claim After the police have left the scene, if you have a report number, it is important that you provide this to the insurance company. Let them know you’ve been in an accident and open up a claim. It’s important to keep in mind that it’s a good idea to not reveal too much information to avoid your claim from becoming diminished in value — that’s where we come in! An accident lawyer can help guide you in the right direction and represent you to ensure that you receive the maximum amount for your claim. Following an automobile accident, even the most seasoned drivers can be a bit rattled. Remember to breathe, check for serious injuries, then follow these six simple steps! For any questions or concerns or if you or a loved one has been in an accident and is seeking representation, we’ve got you covered! Give us a call — we are ready to help you achieve the compensation you deserve!

Top Motorcycle Safety Tips LET’S KEEP OUR ROADS SAFE FOR EVERYONE

If you’ve ever planned a vacation, you’ve probably picked a few key places to visit, like a museum, restaurant, or historic site. However, a new vacation trend is becoming increasingly popular: sleep tourism, where a traveler plans their entire vacation to get the best quality sleep during their time away. 3 Places to Visit for a Great Night’s Sleep Before, common goals for vacations were to eat delicious foods, stay up late to see the sights, and fit in as much activity as possible. However, this left travelers completely exhausted. And as our culture continues to understand how important sleep is to our health, more people are prioritizing rest even while they’re away.

According to the National Safety Council (NFS), in the U.S., motorcycles account for only about 3% of all registered vehicles on the road. However, in 2020, motorcycles accounted for 14% of traffic-related deaths. For such a small amount of motorcycles on the road, that’s a huge chunk! With statistics like this, it’s important for both drivers and motorcyclists to take extra precautions to keep everyone safe. In honor of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, we’ve gathered up some important tips for motorcyclists and vehicle drivers to allow everyone to safely enjoy their ride. Let’s take a look. Safety Tips for Motorcyclists Wear appropriate gear. To protect your body, proper gear and clothing are paramount. Wear a Department of Transportation-approved helmet, eye protection, jacket, and other protective clothing. If possible, wear something bright and reflective to be more easily seen on the road. Take a safety course and obey road rules. In a motorcycle safety course, you’ll be educated on the rules and regulations of the road for motorcycles and what type of actions

But being a sleep tourist is about more than going to bed early

and ensuring you get your recommended eight hours of rest. It’s about building your vacation around sleep. Some hotels even

offer rooms tailored to sleep tourists, with

amenities so popular that their sleep options have become regular offerings.

So, if sleep tourism sounds like something you’d be interested in, here are three hotels that help you catch those z’s. Park Hyatt New York (NYC): This hotel features a “Sleep Suite” designed by Bryte, a company that uses AI to facilitate sleep. The room touts an intuitive “Restorative Bed,” which adjusts to relieve pressure points and controls climate temperature throughout the night, according to each person’s needs. This suite also includes an array of soothing essential oils, a diffuser, and books about sleep. The Cadogan, a Belmond Hotel (London): This hotel offers

a “sleep concierge,” which boasts prerecorded sleep meditations and a pillow selection menu for every type of sleeper. Sleepers can even benefit from the hotel’s weighted blankets, scented pillow mist service, and their proprietary sleep tea. Zedwell (London): The first ever “sleep-centric” hotel, Zedwell uses recycled materials to insulate every door, wall, and floor from sound. This hotel also purifies the air within the hotel and fills every space with ambient lighting.

to take in any situation that can potentially occur. A course will help you exercise good judgment, and while it may sound remedial, it’s important to obey the rules of the road, traffic signals, and speed limits. Check the weather. Before you hit the open road, check the weather to make sure you won’t be encountering any hazards like snow and ice while on your ride. Safety Tips for Drivers Check your blind spots. Before changing lanes, check your blind spots, then check them once more after that! Because motorcycles are smaller than most vehicles, they can be more difficult to spot. Maintain a safe following distance. Rear-ending a motorcycle, even just a tap, can be life-threatening. So, it’s important to maintain a safe following distance if you are behind a motorcycle. When stopping at an intersection, allow plenty of room between your car and the motorcycle.

On the night of New Year’s Eve in 2014, a group of burglars experienced the fright of a lifetime. Expecting to rob a quiet home in Derby, England, the intruders instead came face to snout with Ludwig, a 240-pound potbellied pig. Abandoning all thoughts of crime once they spotted the pig, the burglars instantly fled the scene and ran for their lives. The “hero ham” had already become a popular figure in his town and was well-loved for his gentle demeanor. In fact, Michael Maughan, Ludwig’s owner, is confident that Ludwig wouldn’t have harmed the intruders, even if he does look quite intimidating. Local officers believe the robbers must have heard Ludwig’s Rottweiler- like “growl” and immediately hit the road, leaving the door wide open behind them. The story of this heroic potbellied pig became a sensation throughout Europe. Countless fans have applauded the Canadian- born hog for his loyalty to his owners. But the owners want to ensure people understand that Ludwig would never hurt anyone. Some fabricated web stories made Ludwig sound more dangerous than he is, so Maughan spoke to the Toronto Star to dispute any defamations against Ludwig’s kindness. “He’s being painted as a vicious creature when he’s actually quite a sweet animal,” he explained. “He didn’t exactly bare his tusks and charge, I don’t think. I think he got absolutely, ‘Arrgh,’ and they just ran for it.” In fact, Maughan detailed that after a two-month separation during their move to England, the pig shed tears during their reunion. Adorable and affectionate, Ludwig would have probably become friends with the intruders in no time. Even if his “bark” is worse than his bite, Ludwig succeeded in keeping his owners safe while also protecting their home. This 240-pound potbellied pig continues to enjoy his comfortable home in Derby and is considered a town hero. Anyone looking for a guard dog may want to consider a hefty hog instead! Don’t assume anything. Never assume that a motorcycle driver is changing lanes just because they are moving right or left within their lane. It’s common for them to shift within their lane as they drive, and this movement shouldn’t be confused with lane changes. Pay extra attention! Stay Safe and Prepared 5 SUMMER ROAD TRIP TIPS

Preset the navigation. To avoid fumbling with your car or phone GPS while driving, plug in your destination before departing. One perk of doing so is that you’ll have an accurate idea of your arrival time. Pack an emergency kit. Whether you go camping, encounter an emergency, or stub your toe at the gas station, having an emergency kit full of first aid supplies is always a good idea. Take breaks. While arriving as quickly as possible (without speeding, of course) is up there along with safety on the list of your summer road trip priorities, it’s important to take breaks along the way to stretch your legs, grab a bite to eat, and rest up! Your eyes and mind can get tired — avoiding fatigue and tunnel vision is paramount!

Do you feel that? As summer quickly approaches, it’s starting to warm up outside, and with that comes more trips, vacations, and road trips! If a road trip is on your summer agenda this year, be sure to stay safe with these preparation tips! Perform regularly scheduled maintenance. Before hitting the road, have your car serviced. You should get a routine inspection, oil change, and tire rotation performed to catch any potential problems before you get left stranded on the side of the road or in a dangerous situation. Scope out the weather. Knowing what weather conditions to expect before they catch you by surprise can help you decide the best route to take as well as avoid potential hazards certain elements can present. Keep in mind that the weather changes often, so be sure to keep an eye on it throughout your travels!
