Pro wrestling is alive and well in Hawkes- bury and wrestling fans are in for a treat with the inaugural gala of the new wres- tling league founded by wrestling fanat- ics Steven Levac, Jacques Lamoureux and Roch “The Blast”Desjardins. Hawkesbury Championship Wrestling will ring the bell for the first time on No- vember 30 at the école secondaire régio- nale de Hawkesbury for a night of wres- tling action to remember. “There’s gonna be a lot of surprises and the fans will be rabid,” says Roch Desjar- dins, who stepped into the ring for the first time last year to face the dangerous SOA Amin. “We’re going all-out for the first show and if HCW is successful, we want to bring monthly wrestling galas to Hawkes- bury and recreate the frenzy and fan fol- lowing of the good ol’ wrestling territory days.” HCW wants to dissociate itself from backyard and hardcore wrestling and prefers to concentrate on good wrestling action, character development and family entertainment. For its first show, the promoters are bet- ting on local talent to get the fans going and many will be anxious to see The Spoil- er Guy Gagné in the ring once again. “Carl XL Leduc will also be on the card and SOA Amin will once again raise havoc in the ring with his devious antics,” says Roch Desjardins. “His opponent will be

Concert season for Amaryllis to be able to count on help and support from the community so that we can share with you some of the wonderful music that Christmas brings,” she continues.

newsroom@eap.on.ca Fall signals rehearsal time for the Amaryl- lis Women’s Choir. Members of the group are “excitedly planning and rehearsing for Christmas Concerts where we can share with you the wonderful music that is so much a part of a joyful Christmas season,” relates Susan McAlpine. Two concerts will be held this season: Sunday, December 2 at 3 p.m. at Église St- Eugene, 1108 rue Labrosse, St-Eugène, and Saturday December 8 at 2 p.m. at St. Jude’s Church, 372 Geneviève St. Hawkesbury. Tickets for both events are $15.00 at the door, or $12.00 in advance. For the St-Eu- gene concert, tickets can be purchased in advance from choir members, at the office of The Review or at the door. For the St. Jude’s concert, some tickets will be avail- able at The Review, but for more informa- tion contact Lina Beck at 819-242-9167. “Children under 12 are admitted free, as we hope to show young people the joy that comes from performing wonderful music together with an instrument that is always with us—our voice,” says McAlpine, who is responsible for communications for the group. “In September 2012 Amaryllis welcomed a new director, Uwe Leiflander, who has been enthusiastically guiding us in our rehearsals for the upcoming Christmas concerts in St-Eugene and Hawkesbury. Mr. Lieflander has vast experience in cho- ral conducting, composition and music arrangement. In 2002 he had the distinc- tion of conducting the 500-member World Youth Day choir and full orchestra in a per- formance that was viewed on television by 1 billion people world-wide during the visit of Pope John Paul II to Canada,” she relates. “Our choir, which has members from both Ontario and Québec, was founded in Vankleek Hill in 1995 under the direction of Carol and the late Richard Hague, and still rehearses in Vankleek Hill every week. We are very fortunate as an amateur choir

“We have been blessed through the years to have a loyal attendance of music-appreci- ators from both Québec and Ontario at our concerts, and we are excited and pleased to have another opportunity to entertain you in the Christmas season.” For more information, call K. However, the average price of homes dropped by eight per cent, to $158,476. According to statistics provided by the board, home sales numbered 132 units in October. This was an increase of 47 per cent compared to a quiet month of Octo- ber last year, and marked the best Octo- ber sales figure since 2007. “Resale housing demand was still run- ning at above average levels in October following the big rebound we saw in September,” said board president Lana Barnes. “With just two months left to go this year, activity remains on track to beat both 2010 and 2011. Sales in the first 10 months of 2012 ran four per cent ahead of the same period last year.” The Cornwall and District Real Estate Board covers a large area, including the City of Cornwall and the Counties of Stor- mont, Glengarry, Prescott, and part of Dundas.
