Welcome Message
Welcome and thank you for supporting the 2024 N. C. State Fair Apprentice Contests. ApprenticeshipNC, the State Apprenticeship Agency housed under the North Carolina Community College System, is honored to once again host these prestigious events.
The Annual Apprentice Contests are a wonderful opportunity for our Registered Apprentices and Pre-Apprentices to demonstrate their skills. While Registered Apprenticeship can be used to develop expertise in almost any occupation, the state fair is an excellent opportunity to highlight our skilled trades Registered Apprentices. This year we celebrate two major milestones—the 70th Annual Masonry Apprentice Contest and the 20th Annual HV/AC-R Apprentice Contest. We also recognize the numerous successes of our Electrical and Plumber Apprentice Contests and the Carpentry Pre-Apprentice Contest. As the State Apprenticeship Agency, ApprenticeshipNC’s role is to register, grow, and oversee the quality and safety of Registered Apprenticeships across North Carolina. Registered Apprenticeship is a time-tested and proven workforce development approach. Registered Apprentices earn while they learn through on-the-job training, supplemental education, and a progressive wage scale. Employers gain skilled, dependable, and loyal employees molded to their culture and way of doing things. Registered Apprenticeship is a win-win-win-win proposition because it is good for the apprentice, good for the employer, good for the apprentice’s family, and good for the community. Thank you for joining us as we celebrate some of the best apprentices in the state and the impact they have on us all. Sincerely
Chris Harrington, Ph.D., MBA State Director, ApprenticeshipNC Economic Development Division—North Carolina Community College System
