CONTEST RULES

Contestants cannot have cell phones at any time during contest. Contestant must be an electrical apprentice

registered

with

ApprenticeshipNC.

Contestants must have completed at least two years ( 4,001 OJT hours and 288 related instruction hours ), but not more than four years (8,000 OJT hours) of training and not have received a Certificate of Completion by October 23, 2024, as certified by the apprenticeship program official(s), verified by ApprenticeshipNC, and approved by the Contest Committee. Contestants must be in training with an employer who has a program or is affiliated with a program that is registered with ApprenticeshipNC. Contestants must be entered in the contest by an employer who has a program or is affiliated with a program that is registered with ApprenticeshipNC. Contestants cannot compete if they have passed any States Contracting Licensing Boards Exam or have been approved to take such an exam before the date of the competition. First place winner ineligible to compete in future contests. Contest limited to 36 qualified contestants on the main list and four on the alternate list. Entry forms made available online by August 1, 2024. Entry forms accepted from 8:00 a.m. August 1,2024 until 11:59 p.m. September 6, 2024. Entries will not be accepted before or after these dates. No exceptions. The date and time of entries will be recorded when received by ApprenticeshipNC. Contestants must furnish own tool pouch and minimum required hand tools: 2020 NEC book; 1/2" and 3/4" EMT bender; nylon or metal fish tape; 4-inch-long maximum flathead screwdriver; 6-inch-long minimum flathead screwdriver; hacksaw or battery power metal cutting tool; hammer; hard hat; level; lineman pliers; pencil; phillips #2 screwdriver of any length; pliers with crimping capabilities (can be stand-alone or part of other tool such as lineman pliers with center crimping capabilities); pocketknife; 6 ft minimum ruler or tape measure; safety glasses or goggles with full side protection; two slip joint pliers; wire strippers; work gloves. Battery operated hand tools such as drills are permitted, but not required. No cord-and-plug equipment of any kind allowed. Contestants must wear ANSI safety approved footwear. Steel-toed footwear not required. Contestants must be present by 7:00 a.m. on October 23, 2024, for contest check-in. Contestants will have their work areas designated, and no tools or materials can be outside each designated area. Contestants will be given a materials list and 15 minutes to verify that they have all the material on the list. If they are missing any material, judges will be available during this time to get them. Tool carts are to be removed from under the tent before the contest starts. Conduit bending must be completed by 9:30 a.m. Contestants will be judged on a hands-on project and a written examination. All judging is final. All contestants must participate in disassembly and storage of all projects immediately following the awards presentation. Please make plans accordingly.
