boy went off to his play and left Mother to get the wood and the water¡ the old est girl went off to her play and forgot to help; but the youngest girl said, “I love you, Mother; today I’ll help you all I can.” S h e swept, and dusted. And she cared for •the baby. Which of the children do you think really loved Mother best? If we love, we are willing .and glad to give. s-bivision LESSON STORY: Once Paul in writ ing a letter to one of the churches told of another church which was very poor and yet had sent large donations to the poor in Jerusalem. He said this church was so generous because its members had first given themselves to the Lord Jesus. It is a splendid thing to give our money for God’s work, but our first duty is to give ourselves. If God really has us, do you think He will have our money, too? * When we think of what the Lord Jesus has done for us, surely we should be glad to do what We can for Him and for His work. Christ had a share in all of heaven’s glory, but He left it and came down to be bom in a stable in order that He might bring us to God. -There are few more beautiful verses in the Bible than 2 Corinthians 8:9. Do you know why God wants your money? He wants it so that the story of Jesus may be carried to all the world. “God loveth a cheerful giver,” but God does not want your money without you. Who will give himself to God this morning ? Object Lesson O pening a H andbag OBJECT: A paper handbag. (Make by using a piece of paper 8% x 11 inches, or larger if visibility requires. Fold the paper to make the size 4% x 11 inches. Fold again, making the-size 414 x 5% inches. With the single fold to. your left, and the double fold nearest you, begin cutting at the lower right side. Cut toward the top and middle, making half the shape of a woman’s handbag. Open one fold, and on the front sidè, in the middle, cut out a half inch strip from the top to the bottom. Be tween the edges where the strip has been cut out, print vertically the word “GIVE.” Open the handbag, and, using the letters of the word “GIVE,” com- pletè the following words: “GOLD, TIME, LOVE, TALENTS.” Crease the front of the handbag in order that it will fold doWn just below the word “GOLD.” It should be creased below each word, so that each will be hidden until desired : during the lesson. Color the‘ inside and outside of the handbag a light brown.).
man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not- grudgingly* or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” .... : We will open the handbag to see what God wants us to give. First, we see the word “ GOLD.” One tenth of our money belongs to God. Next, there is “TIME.” ,We need constantly to be re minded that at least one-seventh of our time belongs to God. As I open, the handbag further, I read the word “LOVE.” In Romans 13:8, we read, “Owe no man any thing; but to love one another.” The last word is “TAL ENTS.” God expects us to give in serv ice of the talents He has given ub. Giving is more than money. It includes our time, love, and talents. LESSON T E X T ; Isa. 9:6, 7; John 1:1-4, 10-14; 1 John 4:9-11. GOLDEN T E X T : «The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour o f the world” (1 John 4:14). DEVOTIONAL READ ING : Lk. 2:8-20. Outline and Exposition I. T he P rophecy of the C oming (Isa. 9:6, 7) S HIS PASSAGE contains a pic ture of both the first and second advents of our Lord. He is the “ child” born—vindicating His humanity (cf. Gen. 3:15; Gal. 4:4), and He is the “Son” given, referring to His deity (cf. Psa. 2:7; Isa. 49:6; John 3:16). The Son Could hot be bora; He is the ever- existent, all-powerful, divine Son; it is the Child who is'born. Ultimately, this Son will come to earth as the Ruler upon whose shoulder the government shall rest. The,passage clearly implies His authority and power, His protection and provision, not only for Israel,, but also for all who will come under the sovereignty of Him who is to be acclaimed King of kings and Lord of lords. , His character is suggested' by His names, the names JHe will bear when He comes in power to reign: “Wonder ful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The P r i n c e of Peace.” He; is the only One who can bring peace, as He is the only One who can make or give or maintain peace, for individuals and for nations. His kingdom will be the everlasting kingdom. Its center will be the throne of David in the city of Jerusalem. The character of His rule will be one of perfect righteousness throughout the world. Its certainty is assured because the zeal of the Lord of hosts, will per form iit. £Continued on Page 430]
