a share in that triumph which Jesus won, not for Himself alone, but for us all. Remember that you were in Him when He won it, and claim victory! —F. B. Meyer. 18. Conviction of Sin “The Comforter . . . will reprove the world of sin, . . . because they believe not on me” (John 16:7-9). A jury may convict me of crimes; Conscience may convict me of sins; but only the Spirit of God can convict me of sin. Of what sin does the Comforter convict men? Murder? Adultery? Theft? Lying? No! His work is to convict of sin, not sins. When a man commits such sins, his own natural conscience will convict him. . . . The primary mission o f the Comforter to the unregenerate world is to convince men that the one damning sin is that of not believing in Christ. —J. Oswald Sanders. 19. - How He Is Known “And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with- them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him” (Lie. 24:30, 31). The commonplace shall break open and reveal to us the King. /If I invite Him to come into my house and share with me the common life of the com mon day . . . He will make Himself known to me . . . If I invite Him to share my pleasures, my very joys will be rarefied by the light of His counte nance. He is willing to make His reve lations through the humble things of the ordinary day.—J. H. Jowett. 20. The Voice of the Book “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” (Acts 9:6). If we are disciples of Jesus and fol lowing Him, theti it will follow that what He has revealed to us in His Word will always be for us the final court of appeal. We shall not for one moment weigh the voice of the preacher against the voice of the Book. We shall not weigh the voice or teaching of in dividual Christians, be they ever so esteemed . . . against the voice of the Word of God.—J. Russell Howden. 21. Nourishing Self-Love “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape” (1 Cor. 10:13). Your trouble comes alone from your self, by listening to yourself. You nour ish the sensibility and delicacy of self- love in your soul by your emotion about yourself. Instead of faithfully bearing your cross, and fulfilling your duties by helping others to bear their burdens

and by upholding those whom God has confided to your care, you withdraw within yourself and occupy yourself with your own discouragement. Hope in God; He will sustain you and render you useful to your neighbor. :•—Alliance Weekly. 22. His Unlimited Power "We have a great hi£h priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God” (Heb. 4:14). He is able to put into His sympathy and help all the power of His resurrec tion life. Some might be tempted to say that if He were here in bodily form, they could believe in Him, but let it he understood that as a humble, itinerant Preacher, working a few mir acles, His sphere of influence was local and limited, but now His saving and sympathizing ministry knows no limits of time, place, or power. —A London Journalist. 23. Usable Vessels “If a man therefore purge himself, . . . he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use” (2 Tim. 2:21). God uses in His temple and at His altar no unsanctified vessel. Whether it be of gold or silver, of wood or of earth, it must be set apart unto the Master’s use. In proportion as your hand and heart and tongue are purged from the world’s uses . . . and solemnly sanctified by separation for the holy service of the sanctuary, will He,, can He, make them His implements and in struments in the redemption of a lost world.—A. T. Pierson. 24. Calmness by Communion “When he had sent the multitude
