9.2.1 SPOKE WHEELS Lug nuts are prone to loosen right after a wheel is mounted to a hub. When driving on a remounted wheel, check to see if the lug nuts are tight after the first 50-100 miles of driving and weekly thereafter. When removing a wheel from a trailer equipped with spoke wheels, care must be taken to avoid injury.
^ WARNING
Flying Projectile Hazard. Wedges can fly out with force when removing wheel. Partially loosen wheel lugs and relieve tension on wedges before removing wheel lugs. Loosen the wheel lugs but do not remove at this time. With the wheel lugs loose, strike the wedges with a hammer to free tension on wedges. Now the wheel lugs and wedges can be removed. Install wheel, wedges and lugs. Rotate the wheel and set runout to a maximum of 1/8 inch. Evenly tighten lugs to 200-250 lb/ft of torque.

NOTICE
Trailer Damage. Studs, lugs and wheels can be damaged by over tightening. Do not over tighten wheel lugs.
9.2.2 DISK WHEELS Lug nuts are prone to loosen right after a wheel is mounted to a hub. When driving on a remounted wheel, check to see if the lug nuts are tight after the first 50-100 miles of driving and weekly thereafter.

Place two drops of oil to a point between the nut and flange and two drops to the two or three threads at the end of each wheel stud. 2. Tighten to 50 lb/ft of torque in the sequence shown in figure 9-1.
