29 below JORDAN SCHERMERHORN Sometimes the kids say it better than we can, so we’ll let Jordan Schermerhorn of Pueblo, CO, tell you all about his rodding journey: “I’ve been coming to the Nationals (Rocky Mountain) since I was in my mom’s belly. My grandpa and dad have played a big role in kick-starting my love for the Nationals and everything street rod related. I’ve had many obstacles in my car, but each one I have overcome. My family is my biggest supporter and are always helping me whenever.” Jordan drives a ’63 Ford Fairlane he modified with ’59 Caddy taillights and black paint while his girlfriend lettered it. Power comes from a Ford 260 with a Ford O Matic two-speed, and all the fun stuff like halo lights, flame throwers, air horn, under-glow lights, etc.
ALEX KLINE This is one of my favorite 29 Below street rods from 2024. I ran into Alex Kline at three regional events in 2024 (I didn’t see him this year at the Street Rod Nationals, but he regularly attends) starting with the Street Rod Nationals South (which will return in 2026). That’s a long way away from Alex’s Plainwell, MI, address, which is closer to the Davenport and Street Rod Nationals North events. Alex owns a ’31 Ford pickup, but this year he cruised his ’37 Ford Tudor sedan he got from a family friend. It runs a 350/700R4 powertrain, a Mustang II hooked to Coker-wrapped steelies, an air-conditioned interior wired by Alex, and a matte black finish.
JONAH LEYVA-SCOTT Jonah Leyva-Scott from Pueblo West, CO, got his ’62 VW Beetle out of a neighbor’s backyard and he rebuilt it back to perfectly cool. Jonah straightened out the body while retaining the original red paint, slipped on ‘side of mayo’ white-wall tires, Scott’s VW redid the suspension, Professional Upholstery did the Houndstooth interior with a Bluetooth stereo, and Jonah built the 1,905cc flat four with dual carbs.
