S everal years ago I was in the street rod going to a local run when I saw a bumper sticker that caught my attention. It said, “God loves you and I’m trying.” I got a chuckle upon first reading it, but the message stayed in my mind and I think about it occasion- ally. It always brings John 3:16 to mind, probably the most recogniz- able verse in the Bible. You see it at football games, baseball games, NASCAR races and most any other sporting event. When Tim Tebow was the quarterback at the University of Florida he put John 3:16 on his eye black during the National Title Game in 2009 and was amazed that 94 million peo-
ple looked up its meaning on the Google search engine during the game. Each of the sign makers wanted everyone to know how much God loves them and maybe stir some thought. My dad was a Pastor in Oklahoma and used John 3:16 as a teaching aid to the youth at camp. He asked them to replace “the world” with their name. It makes the verse more personal. (Think about it!) The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11 verse 6 that “…without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” He will reward (bless)
them that diligently seek. That is an active faith. To find, you must seek! What then is our responsibili- ty? Besides accepting the gift, the Bible also tells us in Romans 12: 18 that “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” We should strive to get along with everyone, but not at the cost of offending God or betraying our conscience! We are also encouraged in Galatians 6:9-10 to “…not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportu- nity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Reward for well doing might be delayed, but it will come. The verse tells us to especially get along with fellow Christians. (I wonder sometimes if some of us really grasp the mean- ing of eternity since we have such a difficult time getting along here. Christians are going to be together a long time!) We are told in Matthew 5:9 that “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” These are the folks that actively do things that bring peace to a relationship, including admitting when you’re wrong, allowing others to have the last word and loving each other. Jesus tell us in John 15:11-12 “These things have I spoken unto to you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment; at ye love one another, as I have loved you.” Do you want a joy filled life? If you would like to experience His joy, love each other, the way He loved you. Without measure! God loves you, and I’m trying!
