Cathedral School for Boys Strategic Plan 2017-22

PLACE Improve use of learning space, both on campus and off, to support new educational approaches and better meet the needs of boys and teachers. Our Place goal is supported by three initiatives.

REDESIGN OUR CAMPUS to support both current and emerging educational approaches and the learning needs of boys. Many American classrooms haven’t evolved much in the last one hundred years. Kids enter a classroom with desks and tables in rows. They know that they will be on the receiving end of instruction and that “their job” is to consume content. The Strategic Planning team’s research and field trips found a range of classroom environments that are structured more like modern workplaces. Current practices include: mobile furniture to meet multiple classroom needs; whiteboards throughout the classroom, and multiple classroom sizes and configurations for large and small group work. An initial step for Cathedral will be to work with architects focused on classroom environments, to decide the scope and phases of a campus master plan that will best support Cathedral’s program and people.
