Trust is Your Real Currency 2/8/25, Class #202 1:30-4:30 pm How frustrating are repeated, preventable, comebacks? You’ve talked to your team about it. And yet yesterday you caught a tech break a part and try to hide it because he was afraid to tell you. He didn’t trust you, and now you don’t trust him. And just as importantly, your customer doesn’t trust either of you because his car broke down on the side of the road. Trust is an elusive word. EVAP System Diagnostics
NEW
2/8/25, Class #114 8:30-11:30 am While it has been close to 30 years since onboard EVAP monitoring has been required, many technicians still struggle with evaporative system faults. Regulations require just two things, storing and consuming hydrocarbons that would otherwise leak into the atmosphere. To this end, manufacturers have used several different system types. Each type requires a different diagnostic approach. In this session, we will explore what a vehicle’s evaporative system must do, as well as the various methods used to accomplish the goal. The various system types will be explained, and diagnostic procedures will be presented using many case studies. After completing this class, a technician will be able to: • Explain what evaporative systems must accomplish and why it is important to know • Understand evaporative system pressure changes during flow events • Use evaporative system PIDs effectively in a diagnosis • Perform an accurate leak diagnosis using multiple methods • Diagnose purge flow errors and fix EVAP problems! Ignition System and Cam/Crank Synchronization 2/8/25, Class #220 1:30-4:30 pm Vehicle ignition systems have evolved considerably over the years. With the introduction of variable cam timing, it is more critical than ever for the ECM to keep track of the crank and camshaft positions. To keep pace with diagnosing faults, the traditional “ignition scope” has been replaced with diagnostic codes, misfire counters, scan tool misfire graphing, amp probes, and more. In this class we will illustrate how to accurately diagnose cam-crank correlation faults using a labscope, as well as how to troubleshoot misfires regardless of the vehicle’s ignition system type. After completing this class, technicians will be able to: acquire a cam-crank waveform for analysis, diagnose cam- crank sensor circuit faults, understand the current ignition system types, scope secondary and primary ignition, diagnose primary faults with an amp probe, use misfire counter and other related PIDs effectively, effectively use schematics, and more! Unleash the Power of Your Scan Tool 2/8/25, Class #213 1:30-4:30 pm
Scan Data Diagnostics with Fuel Trim and More! 2/8/25, Class #123 8:30-11:30 am With the ever expanding capabilities of scan tools diagnosis is becoming easier if you know how to interpret data. This class will focus around fuel trim values in conjunction with other data PIDs. Many case studies will be used to illustrate points like: incorrect fuel injector flow rate, what you didn’t realize you needed to know about Ethanol, and more. A variety of scan tools will be used. Presented by: The Driveability Guys Speaker: Scott Shotton Torque Management/Electronic Throttle Control 2/8/25, Class #113 8:30-11:30 am Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) is more than just electronically moving a throttle blade. When the accelerator pedal is depressed, the Engine Control Module (ECM) recognizes the pedal sensor position as a torque request. The torque management system will then process the request and deliver the desired engine torque using the throttle blade position, phasing the cams, controlling spark timing, and other outputs. The primary inputs for ETC systems are the APP and TP sensors. Early systems used contact type potentiometers that wear out and create signal glitches that can be difficult to diagnose. After completing this session, a technician will: • Understand the torque management system and identify components • Be able to diagnose sensor and electric motor faults • Know how to properly service ETC systems • Perform relearn or calibration procedures • Know how to use scan data for effective diagnosis of these systems Presented by: Standard Motor Products Speaker: Standard Motor Products Master Trainer
Scan tools have long since been a necessity for diagnosing and repairing vehicles. Modern scan tools have advanced functions such as graphing and recording capabilities, that often go unused. Additionally, many technicians are not taking advantage of the ten OBD modes that exist on the generic side of their scan tool. Regulations for vehicles built from 2008 to present, require manufacturers to supply functions and data in a uniform and consistent layout in generic mode. In this class we will investigate the ten OBD modes of operation in your scan tool and how to use them effectively. We will also explore how to record and review scan data for solving diagnostic mysteries. After completing this class, a technician will be able to do the following: • Identify the ten OBD modes • Effectively use Freeze Frame information • Effectively use the generic data stream • Perform a VE calculation with one PID using generic data • Operate solenoids and other outputs in generic mode • Graph and analyze scan data in context Presented by: Standard Motor Products Speaker: Standard Motor Products Master Trainer

Many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) will be highlighted. Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to apply knowledge of the following topics to diagnose and repair VVT systems: • The principles of operation of Variable Valve Timing (VVT), Variable Valve Lift (VVL), and Variable Valve Duration (VVD) systems • The principles of operation of continuous variable valve actuation system • Variable valvetrain system diagnostic and service procedures • Removal and installation of variable timing, lift, and duration system components Presented by: ACDelco Speaker: Rob Roth
This session provides an overview of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) fuel system design, operation, and servicing. Diagnosing and servicing of GDI fuel systems requires an understanding of fuel delivery systems. This course covers the operation of gasoline high-pressure systems and low-pressure systems as related to the GDI system. Direct fuel injectors, fuel control systems and combined direct and port fuel injection systems are discussed. Diagnosis and service procedures using scan tools and special tools required for servicing GDI systems
will also be discussed. Presented by: ACDelco Speaker: Jerry Tempel

Modern Smart Charging Systems 2/8/25, Class #112 8:30-11:30 am
Vehicle manufacturers are faced with trying to meet ever increasing fuel economy standards. One of the changes the manufacturers have embraced is computer-controlling the charging systems to minimize the rotating resistance of the alternators. These computer-controlled charging systems require a system-wide diagnostic procedure. This course helps to introduce technicians to these computer-controlled charging systems, as well as reinforce the sometimes-forgotten procedures needed for diagnosing charging system failures. The course begins with battery and cable diagnosis, basic alternator operation, as well as belt and pulley inspections. The course then continues, covering the computer-controlled charging system operation and diagnosis. Presented by: BBB Industries Speaker: Brandon Macklenar, ASE Master Tech
