BLADE CONSTRUCTION

Learning objectives:

The participants can describe blade construction parts and enhancements using correct terms (Knowledge, basic level) The participants can explain how to use radius measurements to determine the position and size of blade damage (Knowledge, intermediate level) The participants can explain the importance of weight and balance in terms of both blade and turbine performance (Knowledge, intermediate level)

Training staff shall:

Define the following blade elements:

a. Leading edge

b. Trailing edge

c. Shell

d. Root

Webs (chambers)

g. Bolts

h. Bulkhead

Suction side/leeward side

Pressure side/windward side

Describe how a blade is constructed by considering:

a. Manufacturing techniques

b. Materials used

Explain how to define positions on a blade using radius measurements and use them as vantage points for measuring damage

Explain the importance of weight and balance in terms of both blade and turbine performance

Create a short activity where the participants shall define all the parts of a blade
