editor's note Welcome to our Sunday morning at Hola Sober where we enjoy a little motivation, inspiration, colour, joy, beauty, and fashion over morning coffee as the city kicks into Halloween Eve mode! There is such power in waking up hangover-free any day of the week and to be honest, Sunday mornings are extra special. So many were spent hiding a hangover or feeling ropey but justifying things by blaming some random 'food snack' that I had eaten at midnight... Denial...complete denial...My inbox is filled with women going into their first Halloween and fearful of the whole event. And my answer to them is to get a grip because nine times out of ten you don't even remember your last Halloween escapades. You may have upset your neighbours or your husband, got the children's costume arse over face - whatever unfolded - if alcohol was in the mix - IT WAS NOT FUN. So stop lying to yourself and face up to the fact that you prancing around the village dressed as a witch while drunk IS NOT FUNNY. It's dumb as hell for a fifty-year-old woman to be drunk in the first place let alone, prancing around trick-or-treating. Do yourself a favour this morning and own your story, not some narrative you have created in your head about some romantic version of drunken Halloweens - embrace all that not drinking does this holiday and ENJOY being present and rolling with the punches in all its madness and colour. Not drinking means “I understand myself differently now,” I am no longer wedged between the “I could have been and I never will be - sober.” What does not drinking say to me this sunshine morning, it shouts with a loud clear call saying “Tabitha. You are not crazy. You are a goddamn cheetah.” – Glennon Doyle
Happy Sunday and please join me in the sober dawn chorus as we say not today lady, not today.
Lots of love, Susan Christina Creamer
