cause through it we can “ die” ; because through it we learn that “except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone” (John 12:24). There is no easy road whereby we can make a contribution to others. I haven’t found any — nor does the Scrip ture promise any. Somebody may have to get hurt if somebody else is going to be helped. It is the law of life that he that would save his life and take an easy spot where he is not under stress, will lose his life. He will amount to ab solutely nothing. But he that is ready to lose his life — including the acceptance of mental tension — will live, and will help some body else to live also (II Cor. 4:12). Accept a measured degree of unavoidable stress (but — the dilemma — do not be silly by holding unnecessarily to stress making situations you cannot sur vive). When it “kills” you, you can trust in God. Only when we trust in God can we get work done, because “ except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it” (Psa. 127:1). Only when we have enough mental stress to force us to see our bank ruptcy o f power do we trust in God, and only when we trust in God can we make our eternal con tribution which will not collapse. “ It is vain for you to rise up early . . . for so he giveth his beloved sleep” (Psa. 127:2).Hard work is not enough.
