Yes, you are put ting yourself in the way of God’s prom ises. You are living in daily, open- minded contact with Christ. You are praying, learning, sharing, giving. You are trusting . . . trusting . . . trust ing. . . . Is God working? Yes! Last night the phone rang. His name is Jim and he’s called twice before. He’s a tremen dous Christian! by Ruth Calkin

t h e j o y OF SALVATION in which he began his journey, he struck up an acquaintance with a young woman who saw that he was well-informed on spiritual subjects, and so proceeded to ask his opin ion of a hymn she had just finished reading. To his great astonishment he found it to be none other than his own composition. He tried to evade the issue but when she continued to press him for his reaction to the sacred poem which had so impressed her, he sud denly began to sob, “ Oh, Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who composed that hymn many years ago. I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then.” The Christian young woman, al though amazed, reminded the penitent that “ streams of mercy” still flowed. When the stagecoach arrived at its intended destina tion, the lady took her leave of Mr. Robinson assured that his “ wandering heart” had been restored to conscious fellowship with Him who is the “ Fount of every blessing.” THOT: We may tremble on the Rock of Ages, but the ROCK will never tremble under its.

A S GOD HIMSELF is both the "Author” and the “ Finisher” of our faith, and has "sealed us” to the day of redemption, we are not to suppose that salvation itself can be taken from us (Phil. 1:6). However, our feelings of security, and the joy we form erly knew in regard to spiritual things may be lost, if we let the world come between us and the Saviour. David by his gross sin experienced the darkness and bitterness that comes to every backslidden child of God. In his distress he cried out, "Restore unto me the JOY of thy salvation!” God never despises a "broken and contrite heart” and so David soon found new peace and blessing and went on to be “ a man after God’s own heart.” The Rev. Robert Robinson — author of "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" — was one who in later life lost the joy of salvation when he wandered from the path way of God into the byways of sin. His fellowship with the Lord broken, he became deeply troubled in spirit and so decided to travel to relieve his mind. In the stagecoach

W OR TH Y PRIDE Of self— what.have I, Lord, of which to boast? Familiar are my blunderings to Thee, Too often do I turn on hill and coast Back to the valley's kind security. I know that Thou wouldst have me reach the crest, Although the trail be stony, rough and steep; M y great desire is giving Thee my best, But sorting through my memories— I weep. And yet, this self does hold a worthy pride, I stand aglow in knowledge sure, complete: M y Royal Heritage I need not hide, For Christ has given me this kinship, sweet! I am a child of God, the King of Kings! M y soul expands with joy, my heart takes wings! — Esther Belle Heins
