A variety of guidance relating to the topic of National Insurance (NI) has been updated to reflect changes for tax year 2021-22, as follows:

Class 1A National Insurance contributions on benefits in kind 13 April 2021
The 2021-22 employer guide on the topic of Class 1A National Insurance contributions (NICs) on benefits in kind (CWG5) has been published on GOV.UK.
The guide advises when Class 1A NICS are due and how they should be calculated, reported and paid.

The National Insurance Contributions Bill 2021 is published 13 May 2021
The National Insurance Contributions Bill has been published, which deals with several matters which are of key interest to payroll professionals.
The Bill:
• Introduces a new secondary Class 1 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) relief for employers of Freeport employees • Introduces a new secondary Class 1 NICs relief for employers of armed forces veterans • Introduces an exemption for self-isolation support scheme payments from both Class 2 and Class 4 NICs • Widens the existing power to make regulations that impose requirements to disclose information in relation to arrangements that am to avoid NICs

National Insurance contribution category M in GNS messages 3 June 2021
HMRC is currently working to raise awareness of the National Insurance (NI) category M, which applies to employees who are below the age of 21.
