During much of my 31-year business career, we were successful. I started my career with an international CPA firm and later started a Nashville CPA firm. In 1990, I sold my interest in the CPA firm, and followed my dream by opening a bicycle shop. We built it into Tennessee’s largest bicycle retailer and for 20 years it provided a good income for my family and employees. Everything changed with the tragic flood of May 2010. The flood, along with the recession, was too much and we lost our business along with our savings and retirement. We struggled to keep our home and small farm. I learned far more about myself living through failure than I ever did success. The humiliation of losing so much strengthened our faith in God and our dependence upon Him. We put our faith in God and He provided. He kept our marriage strong and protected our children, who have never given us one bit of trouble. In the end, we avoided bankruptcy. Although we struggled for quite some time, God faithfully provided. Now, I own a new business that places CPAs on temporary projects and couldn’t be happier.
