exercise. The apostle writes approv ingly to some of his people that their faith was growing' exceedingly. By this he meant that they were be coming-better able to take the power of God in the various circumstances and difficulties which .they encoun tered; There is no richer sight than that of a mature saint pressing for ward to the goal. Hindrances aiid trials throng about him, but with unhesi tating step he moves along; his lips speaking forth the confidence that fills his—heart. —The Alliance Weekly. 21. Thanks for All Things “In every thing gi\fe thanks” (1 Thess. 5:18). ' “ Giving thanks a l w a y s for all things” (Eph. 5:20). Giving thanks for and in all things embraces a wide scope, and is con fessedly not an easy ’ thing for the flesh. If the scope embraces only some things—the good, the pleasant, and the enjoyable things—it would be vastly different. That would be comparatively easy, But “ all things” embrace the pleasant and enjoyable, as well as the hard, the trying, and the painful things. This is not easy to do. But there it is: for and in all things. It is the Holy Spirit’s word, and it is final.—W. S. Hottel. 22. The Honor of His Name “Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me” (John 17:11). Taken from the depths of sin and shame, we are now linked with that glorious Name. May He give us a due sense of its honor, and ever keep us In the joy of our new relationship, so that we never bring dishonor upori, or give any cause to speak against it. Living practically in the blessing of God’s thought for us, and in the com panionship of our matchless Friend, we shall be happy and secure, and shall become increasingly sensitive re garding these things. So shall we give Him pleasure instead of grieving Him. —The Believer's Magazine. 23. The Blessing of Experience "But God meant it unto good” (Gen. 50:20). To the Christian man every ex perience, p l e a s a n t or unpleasant, should be taken as from God’s hand and designed, in grace, to be of eter nal blessing. God does not interfere with the choices we make; if He did we would not be human and we would make no mistakes. But when mistakes have been made, and when suffering naturally results, God steps in and in His own marvelous and gracious manner enables us to mould character of eternal value out of the experience.—Newman Watts.

24. Precious Promises “Whereby are given Unto us ex ceeding great and precious promises” (2 Pet. 1:4). God has given us "many promises of pardon, peace, hope, rest, joy. These promises are great; exceeding great; precious. Think of it! Thirty-two thousand promises in the Word of God for all who will meet the conditions and appropriate bless ings! We feel enriched when wq com mit to memory and claim the benefits of fifty or a hundred of the precious promises of God, but think of the mul titude of unused promises and un claimed blessings. —Robert F. Y. Pierce. The Wrong Measuring Rod “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, arid have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (Rev. 3:17). Failure may signify God’s favor, more than some of- our “successes.” Indeed - our successes may be rank failures in His sight. Gamaliel voiced a typically human sentiment when he said, “If it be not of God it will come to nought.” But God is in our failures as well as in our successes. We may not measure Him by the yard stick of our prosperity.— Upward. A Child of the King “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich” (2 Cor. 8:9). Poor? No, of course not! Why, how could I be, When Christ, the King, is taking care of me? Tired? Sometimes—yes, more than tired; but then, I know a place where I can rest again! Lonely? Ah, well I know the aching blight; But now—I’ve Jesus with me day and night! 25. 26.
