Message from the board chair Trevor Danos AM
Dear colleagues, I would like to highlight our NSLHD Board Honour Roll, which recognises individuals who have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to our district. Nominations for the 2025 Honour Roll are now open. Established in 2022, this initiative celebrates staff, consumers, patients, volunteers, and stakeholders who have been significantly involved with NSLHD - typically for five years or more. In 2024, we were proud to honour Ms Jacqueline Hextall and Dr Russell Vandenberg for their extraordinary service and impact. If you know someone deserving of this recognition, I encourage you to nominate them. Up to five recipients are selected each year, with awards presented at our Annual Public Meeting and featured on the NSLHD website. Nominations close on 30 September 2025, and more information is available online here: https://bit.ly/4lsXEXS. For assistance, please email: NSLHD-BoardSecretariat@health.nsw.gov. au . I have also been thoroughly enjoying listening to the Tomorrow’s Medicine Today podcasts. With more than five episodes released, it offers fascinating insights into current and future innovations in healthcare. The latest episode features Professor Lyn March AM discussing musculoskeletal conditions. Listen to all of the podcasts here: https://bit.ly/ nslhd-tmt or on Spotify: https://bit.ly/448P755 Another event I am looking forward to is the next Advancing Women in Medical Leadership Masterclass on Monday 18 August at 12:00pm featuring Associate Professor Sarah Glastras and Dr Chloe Flutter.
This hybrid event - held in person at the Kolling Building and online - will explore the theme ‘How to Get Things Done’. Register your attendance here: https://bit.ly/40s274T. Finally, I am pleased to share an update on the Sydney North HealthCARE Innovation Precinct, a collaborative initiative on the Royal North Shore Hospital campus. This Precinct is a bold step towards a more integrated health, research, academic, and industry ecosystem, with a vision to accelerate value-based healthcare and embed research into everyday clinical care. A comprehensive strategy is currently in development and expected to be finalised in September/October 2025. I was very sad to hear of the recent passing of Clinical Associate Professor John Vandervord. His extraordinary contributions to Royal North Shore Hospital and the wider community leave a lasting legacy. He was deeply respected and will be missed by many. We send the district’s condolences to his family and to those who benefitted from his remarkable surgical skills. Moments like this remind us of the depth of dedication across our district. Thank you for your continued commitment to excellence at NSLHD.
Warm regards,
Trevor Danos AM Board Chair Northern Sydney Local Health District
