Don Peterson Memorial Forestry Scholarship

Don Peterson, affectionately referred to as Don “there’s a grant for that” Peterson by some of his colleagues, never ran out of ideas. He did, however, bounce them off his friends and acquaintances to gauge whether his ideas and thoughts would result in a doable program. If the idea worked, he gave someone else credit. If it didn’t, he kept working on it until it did. Don was a founder of the Forest Industry and Safety Training Alliance, Wisconsin Consulting Foresters, and Wisconsin Wood Marketing Team. He was a supporter of Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association and the motivation for the formation of the Timber Professionals Cooperative. He engaged in Forest Stewardship Contracting with the USFS in both Wisconsin and Michigan and managed the Master Logger Program in both of those states. Don will long be remembered for his selfless dedication to the forest industry, especially to loggers, truckers, and foresters who he engaged with daily.
