Portage County Wildlife Fund - Gib Zinda Memorial Scholarship
The Portage County Wildlife Fund (PCWF) was established to encourage the conservation and development of wildlife habitat in Portage County. In addition to providing scholarships in the College of Natural Resources, PCWF works closely with CNR student organizations on many different projects. Using proceeds from an annual fundraising banquet, they have supported the planting of wild rice and wild celery in the Stevens Point Flowage of the Wisconsin River, building and erecting wood duck nesting boxes and providing nesting platforms for eagles and ospreys. They were also instrumental in re-introducing wild turkeys into Portage County and help support research projects. Chloe Rogers Wildlife Ecology and Management Plover, Wisconsin
Prime Water Anglers Scholarship
Prime Water Anglers’ (PWA) mission is to introduce and educate local youth about fishing basics. They teach them fundamental angling techniques with “hands-on” exposure to tackle and equipment, methods, fish species, and local resources to keep them fishing in the future. They see fishing as a wonderful way to connect people to the great outdoors and each other, strengthening the bonds of family and friends. PWA established this scholarship to support UW-Stevens Point students in the College of Natural Resources who will become the natural resources professionals who will carry their values and goals forward. Rachel Rambo International Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Daniel Rambo in memory of his mother, Rachel Rambo ’80 who passed away in 2014 at the age of 96. Rachel (LeCornu) Rambo was a non-traditional student who completed her education as an adult. She completed high school at age 46 and earned her B.S. in Social Science and Sociology from UWSP at age 63. During her studies at UWSP, she participated in a number of international programs, including study in Spain, Poland, and Asia. It is her family’s hope that students who receive her scholarship will learn much from their travels and value the special qualities of the people they encounter.
