Ireland's Plumbing & Heating Magazine Issue 112 Mar-Apr

Neil Collins has been announced as the new Managing Director of Bassetts, Northern Ireland’s largest plumbing and heating merchants. With a strong engineering background and vast experience in leading prominent businesses, the County Down man is no stranger to the plumbing and heating world, having previously been MD for Northern Ireland at Dimplex before becoming Manufacturing Director for Dimplex Group’s Heating and Ventilation Division. “I am delighted to be joining such a well-known and respected company,” said the new Bassetts MD. “With such strong foundations already in place, I look forward to leading Bassetts through their ongoing phase of continuous growth.” Neil added, “We may be in business for over 40 years, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t forward-thinking. “The opening of our Heating Innovation Centre – the first in NI dedicated to plumbing and heating solutions for self-build projects – reflects the forward-thinking nature that has ensured that Bassetts remains successful. I want to harness that mindset as we aim to grow.” NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR AIMS TO CONTINUE GROWTH AT BASSETTS

The Scottish and

Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF) and the campaigning electrical association SELECT say the rise in the cost of living is driving a worrying rise in meter- tampering, with potentially deadly results. In a joint statement,

Fiona Hodgson, SNIPEF Chief Executive.

Fiona Hodgson, Chief Executive of SNIPEF and Alan Wilson, Managing Director of SELECT, said, “It is a distressing sign of the times that an increasing number of consumers are resorting to tampering with their electrical and gas meters to reduce their energy bills. “Stealing energy in this way is a worrying and illegal practice, often encouraged by widely shared footage on social media. But it risks lives and can have fatal consequences for innocent people close by.” The trade associations alert to the fact that, like all gas and electrical work, interrupting the supply is something that should only ever be dealt with by fully trained and qualified professionals. “We are urging all householders and tradespeople to immediately contact the relevant energy company if they suspect meter tampering has occurred.”
