been a frequent visitor, always leaving a message. Recently we were led to ask for a decision and instantly one of the women testified to having already ac cepted Christ and spoke of the joy and rest and contentment that had come in to her life. Another woman, the most fanatical, testified that when in a hos pital for an operatipn she was visited by the priest who wanted her to confess^ but she told him she did not need him, " for Christ was her Saviour now. One of the men also testified to his accept ance of Christ. So we see that by the use of prayer, patience and persever ance, three already have accepted and no doubt the others will follow in due time. For some it takes time to com prehend the truth, but if we faint not we shall reap in due time. In some cases it is very different. The Spirit of God works from childhood. Passing on the Word Last summer on a trip up North we met an old man in the railroad camp at Bakersfield, and as we spoke to him about the Saviour, he assented to all we said and gave a glowing testimony 01 his faith in Christ. He then went to his room and brought out a small package 'and began to unroll it, one cloth after another, until he uncovered his precious New Testament. Lifting it up to me he said, “I believe confidently in the Sav iour this speaks of, and I have it under my pillow when I lie down- I cannot read, but when visitors come to see me, I ask them if they can read,'and if so, I ask them to read me a chapter; then if some gossiper cornés in to talk about his neighbor, I quickly get out my Tes tament and ask him to read it.” , (This- would be a good custom for some of our American friends to follow). He told me that from his youth up he had had the fear of God and later came to know Jesus as the only Saviour. He never committed the sin of confessing to a priest. Opportunity With Children We have been ovérwhelmed as we see the great opportunity to reach the chil dren in Several large camps and colonies for whom nothing has- been done. We desire to do some definite work in three places, but it will need competent per sons who will be responsible. Also it will mean the renting of a place to gather, them in, as well as other things such as chairs and blackboards. We need the prayers of all who are inter- , ested, both for helpers and funds to in augurate such a work. Any who are in-
baptism was arranged as desired and in the prayer meeting that followed he gave testimony to having been a lost sheep, but ‘was rejoicing now that he had been found by the Great Shepherd. SPANISH DEPARTMENT R. H. BENDER, SEPT. “ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out. “ For the word of God is quick and powerful. We are often led to utter the words quoted at the head of this article, as we see the effects of the Word given out from day to day to an ignorant and su perstitious people, The following will illus trate what we mean. Recently on arriving at one of our camps, which we visit regu larly, one of the men in the group said, “Don’t waste y o u r time on us; we have our faith; you better talk to and teach the children. We replied, -“What is your faith?” And he answered, “Why our holy religion.” “But,” we said, “what does your faith or religion give, you? Do you have salvation, peace, joy and certainty of heaven?” The poor fellow was non-plussed. Then we opened up the Scripture to him and the rest of the group of men who had gathered. When we had concluded we asked them if they would like a copy of the Gospel of John to which they replied that they would, and as we started to leave, several of the men said, “Be sure and come back.” Then the first man spoke up and said, “Yes, come back and instruct us and who knows but that some day we too shall become followers of your religion,” Let us see if this works. Prayer, Patience, Perseverance In this connection we' have a case that verifies the above statement. About a year ago we came across three famil ies, all related, that were in a certain railroad camp. All professed to be staunch Romanists who were very devout in their worship of the Virgin Mary and were determined to hold fast- to their belief. Nevertheless we were invited in and given a seat. We asked them if they would like to have us sing. After singing we gave them a short message, after which we left,, having been invited to return. So for the past year we have
