CASE STUDY: Empowering Science Leadership at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School THE CHALLENGE As a newly appointed Science Leader stepped into role at St Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School, the leadership team sought structured support to establish a clear baseline of science provision. Their goal? To empower the Science Leader with tools and insights needed for impactful curriculum development and confident subject leadership. OUR APPROACH Our Science Focus Review was designed to be comprehensive, supportive, and practical. The Science Leader gained confidence and autonomy, now regularly carrying out pupil interviews, book scrutiny, and moderation activities independently. Collaboration with other schools has begun, with moderation of science books already underway. The school has expressed interest in expanding the Pupil Book Study model to other subjects.

CASE STUDY: Strengthening Governance through Inspection Readiness Training THE CHALLENGE Governors can face challenges when navigating the complexities of Ofsted inspections, particularly around interpreting school data, understanding their strategic responsibilities, and knowing the right questions to ask. There was a clear need for focused, practical CPD that clarified key elements of the inspection process and helped to build governors' confidence in fulfilling their duties. OUR APPROACH Our Governor Inspection Readiness session was designed to deliver high- impact, practical training with clear takeaways. The training covered: » A step-by-step walkthrough of the Ofsted inspection process, focusing on what governors need to know and how they should prepare.

The training had a clear and immediate impact... »

Governors reported increased confidence in understanding inspection criteria and preparing for their role during inspections. Reflection questions and modelled scenarios enabled governors to think more strategically and proactively engage with school leaders. Training materials are now being shared across governing bodies, sparking broader interest in follow-up sessions.

A review of a sample Inspection Data Summary Report (IDSR), including how to interpret the data and understand trends. Guided exploration of governor reflection questions to promote strategic thinking and challenge. Practice on formulating purposeful questions governors can ask school leaders about key performance areas (e.g. attainment, progress, curriculum).

CONCLUSION Governors left the session feeling significantly more confident in their roles, with a stronger grasp of what to expect during inspection and how to approach their strategic responsibilities with clarity. One governor noted, “Really useful overall. I feel more confident in my role.” Another shared, “I’ll be recommending this to the rest of our governing body.”

CASE STUDY: Safeguarding Excellence Across a Multi-Academy Trust

THE CHALLENGE The King Edward VI Foundation needed a consistent external safeguarding audit across its 14 diverse schools. This required a robust approach that considered varying contexts while delivering clear, reliable insights into strengths and areas for improvement. Internally, the Safeguarding Lead sought validated data to align judgments, build trust in assessments, and ensure all schools remained compliant, secure, and proactive in their safeguarding practices. OUR APPROACH BEP was commissioned to carry out external safeguarding audits across the Foundation’s 14 schools. Our lead auditor: » Used a standardised audit tool across all settings, refining it in collaboration with the Foundation Leads based on real-time feedback from schools.

RESULT The process delivered clarity, assurance, and strategic insight... » The Foundation gained a trustworthy, external perspective on safeguarding effectiveness.

Internal judgments were validated, building confidence across leadership. Individual schools received detailed reports that are now being used to guide targeted action planning. Due to the quality and professionalism of the work, BEP has been re-commissioned for the following year.

CONCLUSION

Conducted individual school audits with an emphasis on depth, compliance, and school-specific context. Summarised findings in a comprehensive Excel dashboard, featuring RAG-rated outcomes for each safeguarding statement, enabling both school-level and Foundation-wide analysis. Identified patterns across school types and helped highlight common strengths and strategic areas for development.

CASE STUDY: Building Pedagogical Confidence in a Specialist Setting

THE CHALLENGE Uffculme School identified the need for practical, accessible training that would support staff in developing high-quality universal teaching approaches tailored to a special school context. There was also a desire to equip practitioners with the knowledge and evidence required for the ‘assessment-only’ route to QTS, while strengthening their ability to plan, assess, and reflect on their classroom practice.

RESULT

The programme resulted in noticeable improvements in both confidence and capability... » Colleagues reported a deeper understanding of teaching concepts and a greater ability to apply strategies—particularly in feedback and adaptive teaching.

Mentoring sessions revealed enhanced self-awareness and reflection in lesson design and delivery. Feedback highlighted the effectiveness of training, the clarity of key concepts, and the value of the bite-size structure.

OUR APPROACH

BEP designed and delivered a 10-session training programme specifically for unqualified teachers in specialist settings. The training was: » Focused on core pedagogy, including adaptive teaching, early reading, maths, and effective use of TAs.

CONCLUSION This targeted training programme helped unqualified teachers to take meaningful steps toward professional competence, laying a strong foundation for ongoing development and provided a springboard for a potential second- year programme to further embed and extend the learning journey. “The sessions gave a basic foundational knowledge in key areas… the session on adaptive teaching was especially impactful.”

Integrated with gap tasks, focused observations, and lesson visit feedback, helping participants build a portfolio of evidence for the AO QTS route. Enhanced by reflective, practical discussions to help colleagues process and personalise their learning.
