Rural Arts Connect

Gunnison Arts Center

“We have learned that we are not alone. In our challenges, we now have a network of support, advice, and innovation. We have learned that with ample planning time and consistent meetings, multiple communities can create programs together, uniting our incredible pool of creative talent with other artists creating in the same environment. We have successfully partnered with Chafee Arts, Salida, Aspen Art Museum, and many other RAC partners are interested in a future partnership. We are stronger when we are creating together, steadfast in the knowledge that we are not the only pioneers for the arts struggling to make an impact in our small communities.”

Chaffee Arts

“We have learned that even though we each have differences that make our organizations and geographies unique, we still have problems and concerns in common that we can solve together. I was very surprised to hear that others had the same problems I did and had suggestions for how to fix issues. Fundraising and art program ideas were also a large aspect of what I learned from others in the group. I was surprised that we did so well with Zoom and that the pandemic didn’t stop us from continuing to meet and share information.”

“We find common assets and struggles and capitalize on them. During the RAC process, it was easy to identify which groups had the strength of grant writing. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two of those groups provided a grant writing training via Zoom that strengthened that aspect of the remaining member organizations. Having this class from our peer group was far less intimidating than a grant writing class, and far more effective.”

“There is still so much to learn. I’ve learned that the people in the RAC network are amazing and have great ideas and intentions. I’ve learned that this is important and worth continuing.”
