„Putnice“ Cileta Marinkovića The Passengers of Cile Marinković IZLOŽBA / EXHIBITION

The exhibition entitled The Passengers unveils the latest series of works of painter Milan ‘Cile’ Marinković that have been created over the last few years. Alongside his new works, several older creations are included that haven’t previously been exhibited and relate to the idea of travel and travellers. Passengers represent the causal factor and common denominator of most of the exhibited works and form the latest part of a broader theme that has preoccupied the artist for decades: passers-by. They represent a colourful constellation of the most diverse characters, people the artist meets on his travels, in the cities he visits, in transport, on the streets, in taverns, in passing. The works selected for the exhibition are generally individual or group portraits of women. With their defiant, unusual attitudes, eccentric clothing and strange hairstyles, they represent a kind of homage to modern society and the people in it. The works included in the exhibi- tion present all the power of the expressive charge of the author, for which he is recognised and has remained faithful to since his emer- gence as a painter, more than half a century ago. Cile’s passengers are today presented in urban surroundings, as a gallery of interesting characters with their own destinies, traumas, joys, desires, dreams and hopes. Recognised and renowned among both domestic and foreign crit- ics, Marinković rightly occupies an important place in contemporary trends of the European art scene, as is also confirmed by this exhibi- tion in the Salon of the City of Belgrade Museum.
