THE VENICE BIENNALE’S 60 TH INTERNATIONAL ART EXHIBITION, entitled Stranie- ri Ovunque – Foreigners Every- where, will be curated by Adriano Pedrosa, current artistic director of the Museu de Arte de São Pau- lo. The Exhibition, which will take place in the Central Pavilion (Gi- ardini) and at the city’s Arsenale, will present two sections: the Nu- cleo Contemporaneo and the Nu- cleo Storico. It was in 2021 that the Venice Biennale launched a plan to recon- sider all of its activities in light of recognised and consolidated prin- ciples of environmental sustaina- bility. The goal for this year is to extend the achievement of “car- bon neutrality” certification. As a guiding principle, the Biennale Arte 2024 has favoured artists who have never previously participat-
ed in the International Exhibition, while special attention is being giv- en to outdoor projects, both at the Arsenale and in the Giardini, where a performance programme is be- ing planned with events during the pre-opening and closing weekend of the 60 th Exhibition. Stranieri Ovunque - Foreign- ers Everywhere, the title of the 60 th International Art Exhibi- tion of La Biennale di Venezia, is drawn from a series of works start- ed in 2004 by the collective of Par- is-born and Palermo-based Claire Fontaine. The works consist of ne- on sculptures in different colours that render in a growing number of languages the words “Foreigners Everywhere”. The phrase comes, in turn, from the name of a Tu- rin collective that fought against racism and xenophobia in Italy in the early 2000s.
