Karađorđe’s Park When it comes to city cen- tre parks located alongside iconic churches, there’s none more rec- ognisable than Karađorđe’s Park and the adjacent Temple of Saint Sava. It is named after the impres- sive monument to Đorđe Petrović, better known as Karađorđe, which is considered to be the city’s old- est standing monument. You can have a drink at any of the numer- ous cafés in the vicinity of the park, visit the National Library of Serbia and, of course, enjoy the magnifi- cent Temple of Saint Sava. Topčider You have to leave the city centre to experience Topčider, but the short trip will definitely prove worthwhile. This forest park was first mentioned in the docu- ments of an Ottoman traveller in the 17 th century, while the look of today’s park is thanks to Prince Mi- loš Obrenović. During World War II, these caves were used as Belgrade’s first modern underground shelters, while today they represent a monu- ment to bygone times and a lavish urban area. Located in and around Tašmajdan Park are the Church of St. Mark, the Russian Church, the Central Post Office etc.
