Ames is widely recognized for high quality educational opportunities, not just at the university level, but also from elementary through high school grade levels. Two community school districts are located within the city limits of Ames. Open enrollment is possible between districts when space is available. Private schools are also available. Ames Community School District is one of the best in Iowa, featuring small class sizes, highly qualified teachers, rigorous academic standards, an abundance of extracurricular opportunities, and many advanced placement classes for college credit.
