NEW SWITZERLAND

NEW STORM BOY

IT’S IN THE FAMILY

The Magnier Family have been in the stallion business for five generations, ever since Tom’s great great grandfather and namesake Thomas Magnier began offering the services of his stallion Edlington to the breeders of the Blackwater Valley in the 1850s. In 1970 Tom’s maternal grandfather Vincent O’Brien won the Triple Crown with a colt named Nijinsky. This spurned a particular interest in the horse’s young sire Northern Dancer and - joining forces with John Magnier and Robert Sangster - a ground-breaking plan was hatched to attack the American yearling market for prospective stallions. The rest as they say is history with successes from those early forays funding the development of Coolmore into the global leader it has become today.

Our award-winning herd of Angus cattle play an integral role in the pasture management at Coolmore. Horses are notoriously selective grazers and cattle will clean up areas within paddocks that have been ignored by horses thereby ensuring an even crop of rich pasture throughout each and every paddock.
