It was not a short or easy process to gain the Gold membership but Ben considers it worthwhile. “Much of the application is done through an online portal and it’s taken three years to get to this point. It will be updated as and when the various policies need renewal, such as our insurance cover or new ISO accreditations, including ISO 10,001, which will soon supersede ISO 9001.” Andy chips in, “Ben’s got the patience that he will spend the time on it. that we have achieved certain levels of accreditation.

“These include health and safety, environmental procedures, standard ISO procedures and others we have identified such as our accreditation to ISO 18001 (health and safety), as well as our business standing.” Andy Tait, General Manager at Pirtek Edinburgh says, “It’s all about the depot, the quality of the work that’s carried out at the depot and the standard of work that all the Pirtek centres comply to.” Ben continues, “This means that potential customers don’t have to do any further checks. They know that our systems, in terms of hose replacement, the systems that Pirtek uses are over and above any other company in the country.” The requirements apply both to the practical application of Pirtek’s service and the back office. “Business practices such as finance and procedures used for anti-slavery and anti-bribery are all checked and verified as being above board. Accreditation to all these standards and agencies is important for us as a business. It gives customers peace of mind and should exclude people who are not accredited. “This makes it a sensible economic decision for us, putting us to the top of the list of suppliers.”
