Owners' & Trainers' Brochure

A warm welcome from the team here at Cheltenham Racecourse as the 2022/23 season prepares to get underway.

INFORMATION FOR OWNERS & TRAINERS

We hope this booklet provides you with all the information that you might need for the season ahead, including information on the race programme, racecourse facilities and the experience we aim to deliver to Owners & Trainers. Should you require any further information, please contact Jennifer Dewhurst, Owners & Trainers Liaison via the contact details listed on the back page. It’s hard to imagine that the 2022/23 season can deliver as many stand out performances from both our equine and human stars as we saw last season, however we hope to see most of them returning throughout the season to defend their crowns. The Festival will take place from 14th – 17th March 2023 and will be supported by the other 12 fixtures during the season, all of which have their own important highlights. In team news, Alastair King, previously Assistant Head Groundsperson has been promoted to the role of Head Groundsman. Alastair brings his knowledge gained from other courses and his experience of Cheltenham to the role, he aims to continue to raise the standards of turf management and presentation. We have made changes to the qualification criteria for the Pertemps Hurdle Final at The Festival with the first four now qualifying (from first six). We also see two of the Challenger Series Finals included within our April fixture for the first time. The ever popular Jockey Club Frequent Runner Scheme will once again be running with prizes for trainers who have supported Jockey Club Racecourses the most throughout the season. The two categories remain as above 40 horses in training and below 40. With just over a couple of weeks to go and so much to look ahead to in the season ahead, we look forward to welcoming you to Cheltenham and wish you the very best for a successful and enjoyable season.

BADGE ALLOCATION New for this season, Owners and Trainers badges will be available to book via the PASS system. Every Owner and Partnership is entitled to six owners’ badges per declared runner, along with six complimentary lunches in either our Tattersalls Pavilion or Bistro. Syndicates are offered eight owners’ badges per declared runner as standard, along with eight complimentary lunches in either our Tattersalls Pavilion or Bistro. We understand that syndicate and partnership ownership comes in many different forms. We will always try to best accommodate our owners where possible, so please get in touch with our Owners and Trainers team should you wish to enquire about lunches or further badges. Trainers will continue to be able to gain entry into the racecourse via their NTF badge, if you are not a member of the NTF an Owners and Trainers badge can be collected on arrival. All trainers with runners are allocated a total of two complimentary lunches. Trainers with runners are also entitled to two guest tickets to our club enclosure. Cheltenham reserves the right to offer additional Owners’ Badges at their discretion and subject to space. Any requests for additional badges should be made in advance of the meeting to Cheltenham.Owners@ thejockeyclub.co.uk.

All badges are available for collection from the Owners and Trainers desk located at the North Entrance.

IRISH & OVERSEAS OWNERS & TRAINERS We ask any owners that do not have access to the PASS system to contact our Owners and Trainers team directly. Please email Cheltenham.Owners@thejockeyclub.co.uk, with the names of who will be attending by 4.00pm the day before racing.

Jon Pullin Head of Racing, South West Region and Clerk of the Course, Cheltenham

PARKING Owners are entitled to two Owners and Trainers parking labels per runner. These will be sent to the registered owner (or syndicate manager) by post prior to the meeting. They will be sent to the address that is registered with Weatherbys. If you do not think you will be at that address between entry and declaration stage, please contact the Cheltenham Owners Desk (Cheltenham.Owners@thejockeyclub.co.uk) for them to arrange a re-direction. The parking scheme is colour coded, so that your parking zone will match your label and your advised route to your parking destination as shown on the map. To reach the Owners’ & Trainers’ car park you are advised to follow the blue label route and display the blue car label sent to you when you have a confirmed entry so the car park stewards know to allow access. If you are arriving by taxi, please let us know in advance, as the taxi drop off area is not located near our Owners and Trainers Desk, we will be happy to arrange for any tickets or badges to be left at our Main Drive Ticket office for collection.

RACE MEETINGS

THE CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL TUESDAY 14 - FRIDAY 17 MARCH

This seasons four days of extraordinary take place from the 14th – 17th March. The whole of the racing world will be watching Prestbury Park, as we feature 14 Grade One races across four seven-race cards. The Festival sees the best horses, trainers and jockeys from both sides of the Irish Sea go head to head. Tuesday kicks off The Festival and the roar when the tapes go up on the Supreme will ring around the racecourse. The feature race of the day is the Unibet Champion Hurdle, won in both 2020 and 2021 by Kenny Alexander’s great mare Honeysuckle. The other standout performance on the opening day of The Festival 2021 was Constitution Hill’s 22 length win in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. The Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Glenfarclas Cross County are the headliners of day two of The Festival. The Champion Chase has a history of great winners in the likes of Master Minded, Sprinter Sacre and Altior. Last year Energumene prevailed in the wet conditions to give Willie Mullins his first success in the race. The 2021 renewal of The Glenfarclas Cross Country race saw a one two for Gigginstown Stud, with Delta Work narrowly beating his stable mate Tiger Roll. Both however entered the famous winners enclosure as the dual Grand National winning Tiger Roll was celebrated in his retirement. Day three of the Festival, known as St. Patrick’s Thursday offers up a double of top races in the Ryanair Chase and the Stayers’ Hurdle. In 2021 both races were won again by their returning champions, Allaho for Cheveley Park Stud in the Ryanair and Flooring Porter, for the Flooring Porter Syndicate and Gavin Cromwell in the Stayers Hurdle. Four days of Extraordinary reaches its pinnacle on Boodles Gold Cup Friday. Last year’s winner, the Henry de Bromhead trained A Plus Tard and his jockey Rachael Blackmore made history with Rachael being the first ever female jockey to win the Gold Cup. We do hope that you will be joining us at The Festival this season and we would like to thank all owners, trainers, sponsors, jockeys and stable staff for making The Festival extraordinary.
