Parables A M IN IST ER ASKED A LITTLE GIRL if she knew what is in the Bible. She said with much assurance, “Oh, yes, — there is a lock of my baby hair, a picture of sister’s boy friend, my mommie’s recipe for plum pud ding, and daddy’s ticket for his watch.” This is too tragically realis tic to be humorous. The Word of God should dwell in our hearts richly, and the sooner it is planted there the greater the rooting and security. Some go to God in prayer A s though they would be heard By merit of their earnestness, Or power of their word; A s though God did not want to bless. Or to their crying heed But might be influenced to hear If they could prove their need. Some go to God in prayer W ith broken, bleeding hearts, Craving the peace and victory Which He, alone, imparts. They lay their burdens down On shoulders that are strong. Then take them back upon their own And carry them along. Some humbly talk to God; Confess their helplessness, And having laid their burdens down "Ulcers are not caused by what you eat, but by what's eating you." * * * I REMEMBER, W HEN A BOY ATTEND ING PRAYER MEETINGS, a certain man who always seemed to pray the same thing. He was quite similar to another man in a different church who always began by saying, “Lord, take away the cobwebs which have come between me and Thee.” After hearing this every Wednesday night for several years, one man in the church followed his prayer by ask ing the Lord “Oh Lord, never mind the cobwebs . . . kill that spider.” Lets, as Christians, kill the spi ders that weave the webs which come between the Lord and us in our fellowship. * * * "The world cannot bo cleaned by using soft soap." * * * "Talking With God" Trust Him to do the rest. Such go away in peace, And with the victor's shout To watch with interest, and see How He will work things out. * * *

" Is The TV My Shepherd" The T V is my shepherd. M y spiritual growth shall want. It maketh me to sit down and do nothing for His name's sake, be cause it requireth all my spare time. It keepeth me from doing my duty as a Christian, because it present ed! so many good shows that I must see. It restoreth my knowledge of the things of the world, and keepeth me from the study of God's Word. It leadeth me in the paths of failing to attend the evening worship services, and doing nothing for the kingdom of God. Yea, though I live to be a hundred, I shall keep on viewing my T V as long as it will work, for it is my closest companion. Its sound and its pictures, they comfort me. It presented) entertainment before me, and keepeth me from doing important things with my family. It fills my head with ideas which differ from those set forth in the Word of God. Surely, no good things will come out of my life, because my T V of fered) me no time to do the will of God; Thus I will dwell in misery and frus tration and miss the eternal blessings forever. "When you throw mud at some body, remember you are the only one who is losing ground." * * * "The Untrodden Way1' If God should give to us the key To open the door and let us see The future with its good and ill The sight our hearts with fear would fill; Or else impatient we would be To have and hold our destiny. 'T is better far that Providence Should curtain from us what lies hence, What though the road lies up or down, We cannot change what is to be, But we can choose our company. If our Shepherd's by our side He'll be Sustainer, Friend, and Guide; If He but holds our hand In His E'en sorrow's path will have its bliss: A light will shine upon the road That leads us to our blest abode. Take courage, then, come good or ill, God will His promises fulfill! Published monthly by the Radio Dept. THE BIBLE INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES 558 So. Hope St., Los Angeles 17, Calif.

"Tribute to a Missionary Mother" She was very young when she first sewed A rip or darned a hole; she did it well. So well, that as the others shared the load That keeps a family closely knit, it fell To her to make the clothes for every one A t home, and then for others. Then one day She left her land of birth and with the sun She found a heathen land, a darker way, And stitch by stitch, she sewed by word and deed, A garment patterned by H is gracious love That changed the soul and satisfied each need. It won for all who wore it life above. How bright a robe awaits her heaven ly sight Made by a life of service in His Light! — Dorothy Loosley W H A T C AN YOU DO FORH IM RIGHT NOW ? There aremany of you who want to do more for Christ, some thing that is tangible. So here is a practical suggestion. Why not take a dedicated Biola student and with whatever you can afford to give to ward his support in the Bible In stitute and College, sponsor this stu dent as a missionary or spiritual leader of tomorrow! Your life will actually be multiplied in their serv ice. Think about this very seriously! Some of these fine young folk are having to drop out because of lack of funds. * * * " A Good Car" I'm getting old, my fenders flop, There's little dressing on my top. M y radiator has sprung a leak, M y pistons slap and hinges creak, The brakes are slick, rings all loose. M y spark plugs furnish little juice. Timer's missing— springs all broke, Cushion's saggy— wheels lack spokes, Very little paint on my body tin. But I'm a real good car, for the shape I'm in. So I'll keep puttin' along each day, Asking the Lord to steer the way, To use me and fill me to the brim So I can help others and be a glory to Him.
