New American Realism of George Bellows, Reginald Marsh, and Thomas Hart Benton As the United States stepped on to the world stage in the early twentieth century, a new American realism replaced the influence of impressionism and cubism. George Bellows portrayed the urban realities of New York City. Reginald Marsh painted the gaudy and glittering spectacle of Coney Island. Thomas Hart Benton created dramatic panoramas of the American spirit and Midwestern experience. View iconic paintings of these American masters, learn their biographic details, and see videos that capture a new realism in American art. Wyeths, Wondrous Strange The Wyeths had a profound impact on twentieth century American art that remains both timeless and modern. N.C. Wyeth created swashbuckling illustrations for Treasure Island , Kidnapped , and other classics. His son Andrew Wyeth painted iconic landscapes and people of rural Pennsylvania and seacoast Maine. Andrew's son Jamie Wyeth captured the wondrous strange of his father's and grandfather’s works and painted portraits of John F. Kennedy, ballet superstar Baryshnikov, and pop artist Andy Warhol. Explore the legacy of three generations of this famous family of American artists through examples of their paintings, personal accounts of their lives, and videos of the artists talking about their work and inspirations.
