IN MAY OF 2025 THE CENTRAL Washington University Board of Trustees approved our updated Vision and Mission, demonstrating the understanding that these are living statements that must be responsive to changing student and societal needs. The updated statements were developed with thoughtful, inclusive, and collaborative input from a broadly representative committee through our shared governance systems. Our updated Vision Statement is more directly action oriented, focusing on the way in which CWU is responsive to the students who we enroll and the ways in which we help those students succeed. Through providing access to the amazing faculty and staff at CWU, and through the opportunities they provide to students, we live into our Unifying Value of Student Success. Our Mission Statement explains how we will go about the process of providing access and opportunity for our students. We are committed, as a community, to “fostering high impact practices, sustainability, and authentic community partnerships that are grounded in meaningful relationships.” Our second annual State of the University Address with Strategic Plan updates will share our accomplishments with the CWU community. The day will include an opening address that will provide a great deal of data and an overview of our progress. We will then transition to breakout sessions with presentations on specific Strategic Plan initiatives.
After lunch, we will have two sessions for the entire university community—the first focusing on the development of tactics for our Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and the second focusing on the creation of a process to infuse equity and belonging across the university community. Your participation in these sessions will be critical to our success. I hope you will join us for these sessions to participate in Central Washington University’s journey of being a model learning community.
