 Invitations to speak to a group of professional colleagues (University Department of Ophthalmology, community eye society, advertised regional/national/international conference) or moderate a session of a major regional/national/international specialty or subspecialty conference [Note: only invitations that were accepted and fulfilled may be counted in this category];  Invitations to serve as a member of the Editorial Board of a peer reviewed ophthalmic journal (ophthalmologists) or optometric journal (optometrists) [Note: only invitations that were accepted and fulfilled may be counted in this category];  Invitations to serve as a peer reviewer for ophthalmic journals (ophthalmologists) or optometric journals (optometrists) [Note: only invitations that were accepted and fulfilled may be counted in this category];  Election to membership in an ophthalmologic (M.D.s and D.O.s) or optometric (O.D.s) specialty or subspecialty organization that requires nomination by a credentials committee and ratification by the members;  Inclusion in a regional or national publication that lists “Best Doctors” as rated by their peers;  Receipt of honors or awards for one’s teaching, research/scholarly work and/or clinical expertise from national or international ophthalmologic/ optometric clinical or research organizations, national or international philanthropic organizations, or University Departments of Ophthalmology The following guidelines will apply to clinical faculty members in the Department of Ophthalmology who hold appointment in the Non-Tenure Clinical Service Track and desire promotion in academic rank: To merit promotion from Instructor to Assistant Professor All faculty members who hold an academic appointment in the Non-Tenure Clinical Service Track must (1) be recognized personally by name and clinical subspecialty by all members of the Core Academic Clinical Faculty of the Department [This aspect of peer recognition may be tested by the Department, if doubt about this aspect is raised by any member of the Core Academic Clinical Faculty, by sending an electronic image of the faculty member to all members of the Academic Clinical Faculty and requesting that they name and identify the person’s clinical subspecialty; provided that a majority of the members of the Academic Clinical Faculty respond, a response from any of them that incorrectly identifies the faculty member requesting academic promotion and/or incorrectly identifies his/her clinical subspecialty will be regarded as a failure to meet this criterion]; and (2) have received at least two of the types of peer recognition listed above (or other types of recognition judged by the Departmental ARPT Committee to be of comparable importance) during the three years immediately preceding the application for promotion To merit promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor All faculty members who hold an academic appointment in the Non-Tenure Clinical Service Track must (1) fulfill the criterion of intra-Departmental name and subspecialty recognition by all members of the Core Academic Clinical Faculty as described for faculty members requesting promotion from Instructor to Assistant Professor (see above); and (2) have received at least five of the types of peer recognition listed above (or other types of recognition judged by the Departmental ARPT Committee to be of comparable importance) during the entire period of his/her faculty appointment (including any period of time served as a faculty member of another University Department of Ophthalmology), with at least two of them having been received during the three years immediately preceding the application for promotion. To merit promotion from Associate Professor to Professor All faculty members who hold an academic appointment in the Non-Tenure Clinical Service Track must
