Black Hereford
Angus Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M): Predicts
Black Hereford EPDs are provided by the American Black Hereford Association and IGS.
profitability differences from conception to weaning. Increased selection pressure on $M aims to decrease overall mature cow size and improve feet and fertility while maintaining weaning weight. Weaned Calf Value ($W): Expected difference in future progeny from birth to weaning, focusing on weaning and maternal milk traits and increased mature cow size.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sires for use on mature cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Maternal traits such as milk, stayability and calving ease are not considered. All Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (both heifers and mature cows) for a combination of both maternal and carcass traits.
Feedlot Value ($F): Expected difference for carcass weight value.
Grid Value ($G): Expected difference for carcass grid merit including quality and yield grade.
Beef Value ($B): Expected difference for overall terminal performance.
Combined Value ($C): Includes all traits that make up both $M and $B.
