FLEETWOOD BEGAN WITH AN
INNOVATIVE IDEA ... In 1955 our founder, Norwood Hubbell, thought of making school furniture that was “fleet of foot” (quick to move) and made from wood, thus our name Fleetwood ® . He recognized the need to make classrooms more flexible with mobile furniture in an era when desks were literally bolted to the floor. A simple idea yet a true innovation within classrooms. Fleetwood is continuing our founder’s legacy by using design thinking and human-centered design methodologies to create new and innovative products. We seek to understand the key concerns of schools and evolving trends. Observing classroom dynamics and interviewing key stakeholders—including administrative leaders, educators, students, and maintenance
staff—are critical steps in our process of creating effective learning environments.

OVERVIEW
WHAT'S NEW FOR 2026
We are excited to introduce our new products, the Calm Chair and Mobile Wrap, bringing more possibilities to create unique solutions for focused and calm learning spaces. The Calm Chair expands on our popular Calm Cubby, offering a personal environment that supports sensory needs for students and educators. The Mobile Wrap inspires many possibilities to create a space within a space. It is perfect for forming study zones, quiet corners, and shared spaces within a classroom. It can improve hallway usage experiences, or any place where there is a need to reduce distractions and create sensory-friendly environments.
We have also added a personal marker board
called Palette. Like a painter's palette, its integrated handle makes it easy to hold. It can hang on the side of a desk and fit inside a standard tote tray. Both sides are writable and made of an easy-to-erase durable material appropriate for classrooms.

CLASSROOM APPLICATIONS
CREATING EFFECTIVE LEARNING
ENVIRONMENTS At Fleetwood we use a design thinking approach and user-centered design methodologies to develop our products and space planning recommendations. We have transformed our brand and product offering by being consistently focused on one central question: How can we create effective learning environments? Flexibility, now more than ever, is truly an important approach to classroom design. The diversity and awareness of student needs has grown dramatically, and more ways to support students and educators are required. Educators are striving to use new approaches that demand affective use of space and require new tools. As you look through our inspirational environment renderings and insight-led products, know that we have paid close attention to the details that we feel will inspire educators and meet the needs of ALL students. The following two pages explain our primary framework for achieving effective learning environments, The Learning Environments Framework (LEF). See how we have applied our insights continuing on pages 20-61.
17
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FRAMEWORK ( LEF) Fleetwood developed the Learning Environment Framework (LEF) to assist in observing and designing educational spaces. We believe these four key factors of Teaching Methods, Student Behaviors, Space, and Info-Medium should all be considered to create an effective learning environment. This framework is also the inspiration for our logo and tagline.

APPLICATION PRESCHOOL
Early childhood education is vital to a student’s long-term success. This investment in the future begins with space that allows for a variety of postures and helps students move easily from station to station. Take advantage of our broad surface materials offering to color-code areas within the room. Mobile furniture makes it easy to create a larger open space, whether for circle time or a row of mats at rest time.

APPLICATION KINDERGARTEN - SECOND GRADE Activate lower elementary spaces by allowing students to move easily from one color-coded station to the next. Our mobile, height-adjustable tables can easily be reconfigured and locked in place to prevent disarray. Options allow students to sit, stand, perch, lounge, kneel or plop down on the floor. Central storage promotes a classroom system for shared learning materials and student agency to get what they need on their own. Teachers can have their own lockable storage and the flexibility to move and arrange their personal zone.

APPLICATION HIGH SCHOOL PORTABLE High School portable classrooms often provide temporary solutions for schools in transition. The learning experience in these classrooms should be equivalent to the experience in the primary building. By using our modular, moveable, and flexible furniture in these spaces there is no compromise in quality nor experience for student or educators. Once a transition has occurred the furniture can be placed into the primary building.

School hallways can become powerful learning zones with the right support. Mobile Learning Stations and Mobile Wraps can turn underutilized space into areas for studying, focusing, teaming, and assisted learning — by literally rolling these supportive spaces through the classroom doorway and thereby extending the classroom into hallway and niche spaces. By transforming these transitional spaces, schools can maximize every square foot and better support diverse student needs.
