INNOVATIVE IDEA ... In 1955 our founder, Norwood Hubbell, thought of making school furniture that was “fleet of foot” (quick to move) and made from wood, thus our name Fleetwood ® . He recognized the need to make classrooms more flexible with mobile furniture in an era when desks were literally bolted to the floor. A simple idea yet a true innovation within classrooms. Fleetwood is continuing our founder’s legacy by using design thinking and human-centered design methodologies to create new and innovative products. We seek to understand the key concerns of schools and evolving trends. Observing classroom dynamics and interviewing key stakeholders—including administrative leaders, educators, students, and maintenance
staff—are critical steps in our process of creating effective learning environments.
