Go green with a rainbarrel for the garden

"The students get $10 fromevery barrel sold that we get from rainbarrel.com." The money raised from rainbarrel sales will go towards another green project at the school. The students, under the guidance of Erdeliy, want to build a small greenhouse at their school so they can grow vegetables as part of both the biology section of their general science program and also for the hospitality and tourism section of the school's skills major program for students who may pursue a career in the hospitality industry as either chefs, restauranteurs, or even choose to go into horticulture or farming. Erdeliy, who teaches science at SFX, has several rainbarrels of her own at home, that provide the water for her own flower and vegetable gardens. April showers bring May flowers goes the old saying for most gardeners. A high school teacher in Hammond and her students suggest adding a touch of "eco- green" to that proverb with a rainbarrel. Aleksandra Erdeliy and the students at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School in Hammond are offering to provide local gardeners, and anyone else who is environmentally conscientious, with their very own rainbarrel to collect and recycle water fromstormyweather periods during the year. "It's a great fundraiser," said Erdeliy.
