144 Adrianus Eversen (1818-1897) View of the Zuiderspui in Enkhuizen with the Sint-Pancras Church signed ‘A. Eversen’ (lower right) oil on canvas, 40,5x51 cm
Provenance: -Auction, Skinner, Boston, 28 January 2011, lot 237. -Private collection, Stratford, Connecticut. For this composition, Adrianus Eversen was primarily inspired by a well-known, picturesque, and still extant part of Enkhuizen. The monumental houses along the Zuiderspui were constructed around the mid- seventeenth century on land that became available following the demolition of the medieval city wall. The Zuiderspui remains intact as of 2025, situated near the city gate, the Drommedaris, and the harbour. This district has long been a source of inspiration for many painters, including Cornelis Springer (1817–1891), who was Eversen’s teacher.
