Provenance: -In the collection of the family of the present owners for at least 80 years. Charlotte Köhler was a famous Dutch actress and performance artist. Köhler, together with Albert van Dalsum (1889-1971) and August Defresne (1893- 1961), played a key role in Dutch theatre history and was honoured with several awards, including the Medal of Merit in 1931 and a plaque in 1963. Critics such as J.W.F. Werumeus Buning (1891-1958), Jeanne (1902- 1997) and Anton Koolhaas (1912-1992) praised her performances, especially her solo in ‘Stervend Europa’ by Iwan Goll (1891-1950), described as a deeply personal and emotional cry of despair.
