Verso lot 297
This stencil is the cover for the booklet ‘Sabbatsgesänge’. It was the second booklet for which Werkman created illustrations. His work accompanied a compact anthology on the meaning of the day of rest, written by the German minister August Henkels (1906–1975). The booklet was published by the printing house De Blauwe Schuit in 1941 in an edition of 60 copies. Henkels explained the monochrome stencil for the cover in a letter he wrote to Werkman as follows: ‘H.N.
