The 1940, edition nos. 3-4 is missing the entry ‘Het ex-libris en zijn bezitter’ by Pam G. Rueter. The 1941, edition no. 5 is missing the entry ‘Afbeeldingen van het menselijk skelet’ by Andreas Vesalius & Johan Stephan van Calcar. Halcyon is widely regarded as ‘the most beautiful typographic magazine ever made in the Netherlands’. It appeared from 1940 to 1942. It is to a great extent the reflection - and partly also the conclusion - of the high- quality typographic production of the previous decades. In 1940 it started with an edition of 600 copies. The magazine became famous because of the 4 original Escher wood engravings, due to the ever increasing demand, and high prices of the work of M. C. Escher, his complete sets of Halcyon became rare. ‘Cobsweb’ is the rarest Escher. The engraving dates from 1931; it was published in Halcyon for the first time. Together with this lot comes C. van Dijk ‘Halcyon. het mooiste typografische tijdschrift ooit in ons land gemaakt’/’inhoud 1940-1942’, Zuthphen 1989 and the front cover ‘Halcyon eerste jaargang (No. 1-4) 1940’.
