Literature: -F.H. Bool, J.R. Kist, J.L. Locher and F. Wierda, ‘M.C. Escher: His life and complete graphic work’, New York 1981, ill. p. 290, no. 343. Provenance: -In the collection of the family of the present owner for circa 80 years. Escher rarely used the mezzotint technique, as it often proved to be time-consuming. Escher found an actual mummified frog in his own home, behind a cupboard, and depicted it in this mezzotint exactly as it was.
