Discover Tempe
TAKE A HIKE Tempe boasts some of the most spectacular views in Arizona, and you can find a lot of them around its national parks and nature preserves. Hayden Butte, for example, is one of Tempe’s most iconic landmarks, known as “A” mountain because of the 60-foot “A” mounted there in honor of ASU. Located near Mill Avenue, it is elevated at 1,398 feet and home to petroglyphs and Native American history. You also won’t want to miss the breathtaking views at Papago Park, adorned with unique red rock formations, palm trees and cacti. COOL OFF INDOORS Looking to escape the Arizona sun? (ASU didn’t name dub their mascot the Sun Devils by accident!) There are a lot of indoor recreation options to enjoy in Tempe, including the family- friendly LEGOLAND Discovery Center, the Tempe History Museum, SEA LIFE Arizona Aquarium, the ASU Art Museum and more. There is plenty of culture to experience in Tempe, whether it’s your first time visiting or you’re a long-time resident.
Stop Three
Located southeast of Phoenix, Arizona, Tempe is known for its simultaneous active, bustling lifestyle and laid-back atmosphere. It’s also a place where community matters. Known for being a little “offbeat,” Tempe is at its core a college town. It is home to Arizona State University and the Sun Devils, an appropriate mascot for a college situated in a desert climate. Nearby Phoenix has on average 3,872 hours of sunshine per year, making those covered balconies at the Gamma Pi house a necessity.
GO DOWNTOWN Bustling Downtown Tempe, is situated conveniently close to ASU and South Mill Avenue. Pedestrian-friendly, this area makes for a pleasant and leisurely walkabout where you may pop into numerous shops, boutiques, restaurants, pubs, bars, breweries and more. It’s known for hosting some of the best and most popular events in the city, including live music and July Fourth celebrations.
Stop Four
STAY A WHILE Whether you’re moving a family member in or meeting up with your Gamma Pi sisters for a reunion, everyone will enjoy the stunning views at Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU’s rooftop restaurant and terrace, Lucero, while indulging in its signature tapas- style dishes.
