Operations training
High Voltage Standard / V2 PUBLIC HEARING DRAFT 0.1
After having successfully completed this lesson, the participants can:
11) Recognise how different HV cable, connectors & components properties and features impact safe, efficient working with plug and play HV connectors (Knowledge, basic level)
ELEMENT 2.1 - HV CABLE TYPES, APPLICATIONS, SPECIFICATIONS
Learning objectives:
12) Recognise different HV cable types, their applications, and specifications such as materials, weight per meter and bend radius (Knowledge, basic level)
13) Describe the typical construction of HV cables, including core layers and waterproofing features (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Present a range of HV cable types, applications and specifications:
a.
EPR - Ethylene Propylene Rubber
b.
XLPE - Cross-Linked Polyethylene
c.
cable data
d.
weight per meter
e.
bend radius for HV cables
f. properties of different types such as strength, resistance to damage, flexibility, etc
Encourage the participants to reflect on the different challenges or benefits presented by different cable types with a focus on EPR cable that will be used in this training
Explain what happens to a cable when it is moved using examples of different cable to illustrate the effects on the cable and components
Show participants what happens to HV cables when subjected to mechanical stresses illustrating:
a.
normal working and mechanical stresses
b. problems when exceeding the limits of the cable and components
Quiz the participants on what would indicate excessive mechanical stresses being applied to cables
