Operations training
High Voltage Standard / V2 PUBLIC HEARING DRAFT 0.1
15) Recognise the differences between HV cable connectors and surge arrestors based on structure, characteristics, markings and function (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Using physical examples, illustrate the difference between HV cable connectors and surge arrestors using a range of samples of different products.
The participants shall:
Work in pairs to explore the provided samples of different cable connectors and surge arrestors to identify the difference based on structure, characteristics and markings
Select one sample component and present back to the group its construction, pointing out the features, structure, characteristics and markings
ELEMENT 2.4 - AWARENESS OF BASIC ELECTRICAL FIELD THEORY
Learning objectives:
16) Recognise the relevance of basic field theory when working with of HV cables and connector components (Knowledge, basic level)
17) Describe the potential consequences of subjecting HV components to mechanical stresses or damage (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Illustrate the relevance of basic electric field theory to working with of HV cables and connector components through an example incident, story from the workplace or a case study
a. explain what an electric field is and illustrate why it is important in HV cable connections
b. show why the handling, placement and connection of HV cables needs to consider electrical fields
c. use a plasma lamp as a training prop to visualise electrical fields and how these interact over distance and through materials eg. Illustrate the reaction when moving a fluorescent bulb or light emitting diode close to the plasma lamp surface
